I'd imagine this news hasn't gone down quite so well on the Huddersfield boards?

I've just been reading their thoughts.

That he was always leaving permanently seems universally accepted - so not too surprised or upset by that. A lot of grumbling over the reported figures (although nobody knows what they actually are, and there are some reports of a sizeable loan fee, already paid).

Also quite a few eulogies, for the player - 'best I've seen in 45 years following Town', 'a player I'll tell me grandchildren about', etc, etc.

On that basis, either:

a. They haven't had very many decent players over the last 45 years, or...
b. We can look forward to far more (consistent) quality from Mooy, than we've seen so far.

I’m absolutely delighted he’s signed as for me, he and Alzate have been our 2 best players this season. He’s a quality performer.

But looking at the stats the club put out for him in their email, it shows he only has 1 assist all season which surprised me a little. According to the Premier League stats he’s also only created 3 good chances all season which is the same as Bernardo! As well as he has played, that’s surely something he’s got to improve on in the position he plays?

Just shows that all the players have to step their game up if we’re going to get out of trouble and maybe it’s not just about signing a striker.

Sometimes the value of an assist can be overstated, Mooy might have been the start or middle of a move which creates a goal but is not credited with the assist despite that without his involvement the chance might not have been created

Maybe he just didn't like the manager after Wagner.

Hopefully now his future well next 3.5 years are effectively sorted, he can settle down buy a property. We may see a totally rejuvenated Aaron Mooy, I am sure any player who's on a season long loan worry about the future as nothing guaranteed but, now it's all sorted he can really excel even more than he already has.

Apparently so and who can blame him. He'll probably do the same if it happens to us. He's a quality player and deserves to be in the best league in the world. I'm sure those in the scrap with us would love him on their books.

He can buy a property in the summer, don't want that stress on him for the next few months.I understand he's quite settled in Lewes at the moment anyway.

No, there is a Mooy thread on downatthemac which explains what happened, this bit is relevant:

"The FACT is that Mooys (previous) agent had told us he wouldn’t be signing a contract extension, so we expected Mooy to leave, and had lined up Kieren Dowell as a replacement.

Everything was then in limbo as Mooy dropped his agent, and didn’t get tied up with a new one until quite late in the window.

Then Mooy got a new agent, Phil asked Mooy about potential of agreeing a new contract with Town (in meantime, Dowells agent lined up a deal with Derby)...they tentatively agreed most of the deal, it was the largest contract we’ve ever offered to a player outside of the Premier League, and at that point Hodgkinson thought that Mooy would be playing with us for the season

But then when Mooy came in with his agent to iron out the final details and sign, the mood had changed, they had lined up a loan deal to Brighton and the new contract was only being signed with a pre agreed transfer fee and a recall clause that had to be triggered before the end of December).

Hodgkinson was over a barrel here, they could either hold Mooy to his existing contract and have him play out this season and leave for free...OR...he could get the contract agreed which would bring in an immediate loan fee for Mooy and ensure he didn’t leave on a free.

All the above is the facts, Hodgkinson didn’t field offers for Mooy. Clubs weren’t approaching us about his availability, and his status without an agent meant he wasn’t being touted around."

I'm not convinced that all this outpouring of positivity is justified, he's been a big part of a team struggling to score goals. He's weighed in with 2 and put in some good performances, but at 29 I think a contract taking up to being 33 is very generous. He was a big part of the Huddersfield team which was, let's all be honest, completely rubbish last season. I wasn't a fan of his before he signed, he's better than I thought he was but I think any talk of him being "our best player" is crazy.

Fulham have, allegedly, paid us a £4M loan fee for Knocky. We could have paid a £5M loan fee on top of a £5M transfer fee (none of us really know).

Either way sounds like its a good deal for all concerned.

A striker is still needed. Come on Tony.
