a galaxy far far away
I'm not sure if it is explicit in the actual competition rules, but it is very much the expectation, that ties in the FAY Cup be held at the clubs' main stadia.

Looking through the ties in this current round, it is disappointing to see that almost half are not adhering to it (and a shame that in the 3rd round, we were one of them).

I think it'd be good to play a 12.30 KO U18's game, when we have a 3 p.m. EPL game, yes I know they'd have to use a different area for changing etc but that's fine, it'd be good for the fans to get a chance to cheer them on and some experience for the lads.

They could do this with a league game. FAYC matches have to be played in the evening, under lights:

(b) All matches shall be played under floodlight conditions on midweek dates, unless mutually
agreed otherwise and subject to the approval of the Council.

(d) The time of kick-off shall be 7.00pm unless mutually agreed otherwise, subject to the approval
of the Council. In any event, the Council shall have the power to order that a kick-off time is
changed, as it deems appropriate. Any late kick-off shall be reported by the Referee to The
Association and the Council shall have power to impose a fine.

9. VENUE FOR MATCHES
(a) Venue
(i) The venue of each match will be that of the first drawn Club unless the consent of the
Council has been obtained to any change of venue up to and including the Fifth
Round Proper.

(iii) A match shall not be played on a neutral ground without the consent of the Council.

Vukoje looks like a player. :clap2:

I remember the youth Cup game with Chelsea as well, Scott Sinclair played for Chelsea and I recall Joe Gatting playing for us and looking the business. I'm sure there were notable others from the game too, but those are the two I recall.

I looked it up;

http://thechels.info/wiki/Brighton_&_Hove_Albion_2-1_Chelsea_(2005-06_FA_Youth_Cup)

Sullivan
Hinshelwood Cobbs Chamberlain Elphick
Fogden Fraser Taylor Gatting
Leach Jarvis

Well, John Sullivan, Tommy Elphick, Wes Fogden and Tommy Fraser all had football league careers of varying successes.

For Chelsea, a name or two which might jump out...

Hamann
Hutchinson Worley Cork Bertrand
Cummings Bridcutt Furman Sinclair
Simmonds
Watkins

Jack Cork and Ryan Bertrand would go on to be Premier League players, Sam Hutchinson, Shaun Cummings and Liam Bridcutt would have good Championship careers and Sinclair would win everything for Celtic (now signed for Preston). Their manager was Brendan Rodgers.

As well as Sinclair (who scored Chelsea's only goal), their line up included Liam Bridcutt, Ryan Bertrand, Jack Cork, and Sheffield Wednesday prick Sam Hutchinson

The Albion line up was as follows:

GK 1 John Sullivan
RB 2 Paul Hinshelwood
CB 5 Sonny Cobbs
CB 6 Scott Chamberlain
LB 3 Tommy Elphick
RM 7 Tommy Fraser
CM 4 Wes Fogden
CM 8 Dan Taylor
LM 11 Joe Gatting
CF 9 Dan Leach
CF 10 Ashley Jarvis

The internet is amazing, isn't it?

.

I know you've lined them up, as that site suggests, but there is NO WAY Joe Gatting played left midfield

:lolol: It only occurred to me to look it up after posting, so I hastily edited. I was surprised to see Elphick at left back, and Gatting on the left wing - but I remember Dean Wilkins being a big fan of playing players in various positions to make them more well rounded. Brendan Rodgers' team had plenty of young talent, I vaguely recall Jack Cork playing having seen the name - I'm sure Alan was there to watch the game which got some coverage.

It isn't that - it is just that the Chelsea fan site has just made them up! (or rather made assumptions based on the order the players were listed)

Sonny Cobbs was a left back, so he'd have been there.
Elphick obvs at CB, probably with Paul Hinsh.
Scott Chamberlain was a (tiny) centre midfielder!

I assumed they'd based it on the shirt numbers, unless they've got that wrong as well? Fogden was definitely a winger, Fraser played in the centre with varying competence. I don't recall Dan Taylor at all, same with Dan Leach and Ashley Jarvis.

My Brother was in the area and went along to the game (sat in his car probably ) and remarked on how good Tolaj played and looked years in front of our U18s standard , i can't comment as iv'e not seen him him play yet but was wondering if anyone on here has seen him play or was at the game , and what they thought , he seems to be gaining a good reputation already .

Gatting played centre forward. Step up from youth to adult football was to much. Ran the channels well but for his size got out muscled by central defenders. Hope dont end up saying same about Connelly who would think is same size..

Gatting is 5'11" and relied on his (limited) strength as a target man.

Connolly is about 5'8" much, much quicker, with a lower centre of gravity, and his game is all about running behind defenders.

This is a very promising group of U18s.

Roberts (CB), Tsoungui (CB), Jenks (CM), Spong (CM), Leahy (LM), Vukoje (ST/RM), Tolaj (ST) - all look exciting prospects.

There was a lad on the bench for them called Sam who won this programme on TV everyone was watching... It may have been Hutchinson?!?!

Edit doesn’t say anything on his wiki but there’s nobody on the bench who looks familiar. Major points if anyone can name him and the show. Or maybe they’re only listing the subs that came on on there...?!

The guy who won the SkyTV show to win a football contract was called Ben Greenhalgh - that contract was with Inter though. Something similar?

Pretty sure Leach was a Hailsham / Ebo lad who played up top.

Albion lined up 4-4-2, with Tommy Fraser playing at CB and Gatting and Leach up front - Match report: Albion youth 2 Chelsea Youth 1
