Calling El Presidente. Hi Kieran, a belated Merry Christmas. Can you confirm, to your best estimate, that our 25 man squad earn an average of circa £47k a week?

Or if you think it’s much lower, and idea of the average?

Ta.

I can very much believe it. It's not like we have players queuing up to find the exit door. We seem to be competitive in the transfer market with other teams at about our level who we know are also high payers.

I agree.

What I really should’ve asked is whether the £47k is an average for the entire 25 man squad, so includes Button, Alzate, Connolly and Steele?

It's an estimate for regular first team starters, wouldn't include the likes of Button etc.

What we do know is the club have been very shrewd with its #Together ethos.

The highest and lowest earners are considerably closer to the average than those at many other clubs.

We don't have to look to far in order to see £130k a week players along side £30k a week team mates.

That can't be good!

Aah, the man with the finger on the financial pulse!

This thread seems to have become a little derailed by arguments about averages. The point made by Jolly Red Giant was that WHU were paying more to Hernandez than we were paying to our top 5 earners. If the average is £2.5m (or thereabouts) per annum then JRG is incorrect. Our higher earners will of course be getting more than £2.5m a year.

This may all seem a little petty but in this world of fake news, deceptions need to be highlighted, including fake stats..

Would be interested to see where you got those figures from. According to the link below, our average wage last season was just under £47.2k per week or just shy of £2.5m per year. Javier Hernadez was, I believe, WHU highest paid player. So, three of our average players combined earned just slightly more than he did last year. He didn't earn more than our 5 highest paid players!

http://priceoffootball.com/brighton-2018-19-switch/

I linked to this months ago - stated that the highest paid player at Brighton was Jahanbaksh on £50k a week and it went down from there. We have no idea how accurate these figures are - and yes - Hernandez was the highest paid player at WHU - I was making the point that WHU - not one of the big 6 - was paying one player £7.28million a year - even if it is only the average of 3 Brighton players it demonstrates the point.

Nobody knows what is in these contracts apart from the club and the player - all that is known is a broad sweep from the accounts published by the club - and even then there is a lot of stuff hidden behind the figures (like the amortisation of wages and transfer fees).

I think the truth is that you and JRG are Irish-identifying socialists just like Hughton and therefore he can do no wrong, and you write from that agenda all the time on this thread.

A bit of personal bias coming out there Guinness Boy (despite the bit of stereotyping in the username)

(and by the way - I am not 'Irish-identifying' - I am Irish - well at least 7/8ths going back three generations).

The Sportingintelligence figures exclude any bonuses (appearance, avoid relegation, win, clean sheet etc). Mine include bonuses and are estimates as are all figures quoted.

For a historical perspective of how wages have changed at the club.

So, basically you are now admitting to making it up. You don't know what the top 5 earners at the Albion earn so how can you compare them to what WHU allegedly paid Hernandez. By all means make comments that other clubs are allegedly paying drastically more than we pay our top players but stop making statements like you did as if they are facts!

Also, according to the oracle on financial matters, last season our average salary for first team regulars was £47k per week so I'm guessing there were a few above that and obviously a few below it.

Thank you for those kind words....I am that idiot.
You say ' on the basis of one result ' but it wasn't just one result. As I said in my post, it was weeks of steady decline. The last 23 games read..........LLLDWDLLLDLLWWLLLLDLDDL.......P23 W3 D6 L14.......Points = 15.
15 points out of a possible 69. No wins in the last 9 games of the season and a grand total of 3 points out of 27 and that was ' cause for concern ' !!!
Chris Hughton did do a great job for us but you have to accept that his results over this period were just not good enough and management was too defensive and reactive It doesn't destroy his legacy. That will always be in place. TB decided that a change was needed and I trust his judgement. This isn't revisionist stuff. Its factual. Its why our manager lost his job and why we now have a different one.

But Bournemouth wasn't the last match of the season! Our four EPL games before that we'd won two and lost two, and the match prior to that game was the FA Cup semi-final, where we put in a very decent performance.

Wow - that's some boost relative to supporters incomes - 1980, about 5X as much as me per week, 2019 a massive 150X ............

£55k a week has been mentioned as the top during 2018/19. That may be Dunk, Propper, Duffy, Gross, Montoya, Jahanbakhsh?

When Codner was jailed in 1993, I recall him pleading with the magistrate/judge about a loss of income of £700 pw.

As a first teamer, does that fit in with your chart?

Separately, a bunch of highly regarded 19 years olds including Lynch and Gatting signed contracts in 2006, paying a minimum of £2,000 a week. Even then with Withdean finances, what a great start to their careers.

That's bullshite and you know it. Chris Hughton was a straight shooter and NEVER made things up to make himself look better. What utter hogwash to accuse CH of doing.

He wanted to be employed. Of course he painted himself in the best possible light. It seems it didn’t work. Time you face reality.

The anti Hughton mob on here are the worst posters on NSC, pretty much an iron law

Pathetic. I’ll paraphrase for you: ‘I don’t agree with them so they are the worst posters’
