Level with any part of the body should be onside imo. Let’s favour the attacker not the defender.

It's just BOLLOX, keep the goal line technology and bin the rest, it's sucking the very life out of the game, anyone that still thinks it's a good idea?

Any part onside or any part offside is surely the same thing? We'll still be arguing over a hairline. Ditch it for offside

Great idea. Souness talking sense for a change. I’d still rather bury VAR and any of its champions in the North Sea though.

VAR was brought in for specific duties and spotting offside was one so it will not be dropped. The best suggestions that I have read is to change the rules that it must be confirmed within 30 secs and there be clear daylight between both players involved. If any doubt stick with refs decision either way.

Jamie Carragher just said similar, but I don't agree, because essentially unless there is a significant reason to view, we shouldn't be even getting to lines and measurements.

The 4 goals this weekend: Brighton, Norwich, Palace and Wolves shouldn't have required lines or measuring. One viewing should have told you that there was no clear and obvious error - goals stand. No lines, no arguing over mm.

If there is daylight, or a margin, or very close to no part of body being onside, then sure we get down to mm, but at that point we are approaching a significant error being made to have reached the point of getting to measuring mm. Take the Sheff Utd goal disallowed v us; a clear and obvious error, no need to get into mm.

I voted keep it as it is, as it works perfectly........
I like the thirty second rule idea. If it's that close it takes longer, it's good to stand

Leave onfield decisions to the officials. Train them better, pay them more.

People don't seem to fathom that ANY decision in a game of football can lead to different outcomes. A missed freekick, an offside that didn't directly result in a goal chance could favour the defending team, corners and throw-ins are still incorrectly called all the time and let's not open pandora's box by delving into injury time and how grossly inaccurate it is and how teams take the ****ing piss in the dying stages to see off a game.

Either ALL of it, EVERY decision has to be scrutinised or none of them. Leave them to the officials, human error is part of the game and just because the game is sickeningly inundated with money does not mean we have to ruin it. I'm not sure which is worse currently, celebrating a goal half-heartedly in the knowledge it has to be checked, or the half-hearted pantomime cheer when 30k people are looking at a screen to confirm it. It's a ****ing circus act.

Goal like tech is totally different as it provides a black and white decision within seconds. If only people had seen this coming eh.....

If any part of you is offside then you are ******* offside..... what don’t people get ? There is a line ffs. No point whatsoever moving that line now.

It’s a pain and the spontaneity goes but it’s here to stay.

Would have to be body - otherwise strikers would be offside and hold their arm out to be behind the defender to gain a yard advantage!

Having just looked at the Premier League website they say VAR will only be used to resolve 'clear and obvious' errors and missed incidents, yet the explanation of the precision in which VAR operators come to a decision shows that it was never going to be just 'clear and obvious' errors but pretty much every goal and penalty.

The site also says the technology means viewers can see the decision being reached in real time, whereas the reality for fans attending is no replay until the decison has been reached, often 2 minutes or more after the goal.

It's criminal the system wasn't trialled for a whole season in some mini European league before being rolled out. This is supposed to be the best and richest league in the world with a global fanbase and betting infrastructure around it.
What you just said.

I was totally against VAR originally. Firmly in the "it'll spoil the game and make it like egg chasing" camp.

Then, with how it was used in the World Cup, I thought "well actually this is probably a good thing". It was used well in most cases.

And then this shambles.

The way VAR has been implemented in the Premier League has been nothing short of pathetic.

It's not about being pro or anti the use of the technology, it's about how it's being used.

This would be better, but wouldn't solve the time issue; VAR calls should be over within a handful of seconds.

At last someone sees the problem with the suggestion. All attackers trailing an arm behind them.

Excellent post and sums up how I feel about the whole thing. We do not need tweeks to the system it needs pulling out and putting in the bin
