After Connolly, we already have Victor Gyokeres, Danny Cashman, Jan Mlakar, Ryan Longman, Bojan Radoluvic, and Laurent Tolaj on the books, plus a 14 year old Irish wonderkid about to join, on his 15th birthday.

I'd rather we invest in developing the ones we already have, than bring in more to block their development.

I don't see it as an either/or binary thing, esp with strikers.

None of the above appear to be 'The New Aaron Connolly' just yet.
Which isn't to say they won't be at some point.

But right now the first team squad has 2 strikers.
That needs to change in order to progress through this season into next.

The young'uns above can still make their mark, as they're under 23's, but if they can't make such a massive leap it's a huge ask for AC & NM to see the Albion through to May.


I'm not suggesting the Albion Joelinton (sp) their way into a transfer.
Or get in another 'starlet', but there has to be a fair to middling, granted considerably overpriced, striker with enough about him to ease the workload.

I think the biggest factor is...How Does Potter want to set up his squad. We've been playing a 4-2-2-2 formation recently and quite effectively but the question is are we doing so because of preference or limitations. We could see a new RWB to enable us to play a 3-5-2 as this has a limited requirement of wingers and there's not many great wingers around in our budget. A new striker could be added to give us a different option but very few sides have 2 strikers who are so similar that play every week so I wonder if he wants a different type of foil for Maupay/Connelly. We also have Bernardo & Izquierdo to come back which will feel like new signings so maybe Potter will feel we have enough.

I suspect it will be 1 + Mooy

He isn't signed, as his age precludes it. He seemingly is poised to sign as soon as he is old enough to do so (I forget the exact details). He's definitely been around and involved at Lancing - Connolly himself let slip in an FAI interview, that he had been looking after him while he was over!

I did caveat my reply with plenty of 'yet's' etc.
I desperately hope one of them does step up as Maupay aside the club aren't on a particularly good run of buying strikers.

But the fact that there's space for any of the kids to do so and as yet haven't would suggest they aren't quite there, so the club are going to need, at best, a transitional player to see them through.

I think it’s pretty clear so far that Potter doesn’t just set up 1 system of play. He is a forward thinking manager who plays a fluid system and is more then happy changing 3/4 at the back mid game let alone each week.

Personally I think we will give Tau a big contract in January and this should (I think, I don't know) be enough to get him in the country. He will then be the competing with Maupay and Connolly.

If we can sign Mooy permanently, that would be a massive boost.

Apart from that I think we're pretty well covered, though there's a lot of football to be played and if we lose key players to injury that could influence our dealings

I think we'll continue to buy in some young u18 and u23 prospects ...... and probably some women
