Worth factoring in that Maupay is SEVEN years younger than Baldock too. I know fans expect miracles instantly but Maupay is only 23, and despite criticism from some is still our top scorer this season. Has he been amazing this season? No, but he's chipped in and is doing a solid job.

This, he’s 23. He’s doing well and will almost certainly do better.

Maupay has 4 goals from 11 shots on target which looks like a very decent return, until you take into account he's had a total of 39 shots this season (8th overall in the PL) and missed 2 big chances. In comparison Connolly has 2 goals from 7 shots on target (17 shots in total for the season) and also missed two big chances.

I think it's far to early to be writing Maupay off he's still quite young and learning a new team etc. He's clearly getting into goal scoring positions and hopefully as he adapts to the PL more he'll be able to get more shots on target and more goals.

I know he is contributing to the team in many ways,, but Baldock would've scored more than 2 proper field goals If he had that chance

and he dosen't cost 20m!

Still needs more time but I just don't think he is ready for the leap

I think NSC does inflate the worth and aptitude of many of our players, no surprise that’s what fans do.

But Maupay is not one of them IMO and it was disappointing to see him left on the bench yesterday - but he came on and he created our best moment

I would like to see GM come on and play with Maupay to see if they work together as I am sure that Maupay needs to play off of another player.as the 2nd striker.

We are Brighton remember. We could spunk all our money on a match winner, but why break the habit of a clubs lifetime. :D easy is boring. Don't' ever think otherwise!

Sky Sports suggest the deal was £17 million rising to £20 million, so not that much cheaper really, given that Potter had already worked with McBurnie for a season it would suggest GP thinks that Maupay is a better player.

I thought that when first mentioned he was being touted at £10m and didnt realise that Sheff Utd paid such a high price, so must agree with you about Maupay and GP assessment of him.

I agree. It may seem mad to say it, but I think we've proved that you don't get much for £15-20m these days. You've either got to pay big money for proven Premier League quality (which we don't do) or try to unearth some hidden talent on the cheap. Maupay was okay in the Championship in a team that made lots of chances. He has impressed me this season only in the way he has found different ways not to score. His best moment was his first goal for us, which showed coolness, deft control and confidence. Since then he has snatched at almost every chance. When Murray gets a chance, I feel he will score, or at least that he has an idea of what he wants to do. I don't get that feeling with any of our other players.

We need to get Murray in a DeLoreon ASAP

a galaxy far far away
Clearly comparing Maupay with Baldock is a bit silly and utterly pointless.

What might not be pointless is asking who is better out of Maupay or Connolly, as there will be plenty of games where we only play one up top, like at Anfield. It's also possible, that we buy or re-call in January.

It was interesting to me that Connolly got the nod on Saturday. My view is that if only one of them is playing Connolly has done slightly more. Not much in it though

The trouble is, at the highest level, there are plenty of players that cost a lot more than Maupay who are no better and probably never will be. Far too harsh I think to write off a 23 year old who's been in the Premier League for 4 months and has a respectable average of better than a goal every 3 starts. There's a lot of good things to admire his play - snatching at chances can be resolved with experience and confidence.

Maupay is better, but I’m not sure he’s the final answer to our need for a top striker......though I hope to be proved wrong.

Good player causes plenty of problems and considering amount of chances hasn’t done too bad. Hopefully will get used to the PL and far better prospect than SB ever was or would have been at this level.

Field goals you say? I think we have kicking the ball over the bar covered with Stevens and Propper.

Did I really go with Stevens? Not blaming autocorrect. That will annoy me for days.

We need to be a bit more considerate of the difficulty in moving from the championship to the PL. One good example from recent years is Jamie Vardy. In his last championship season he scored 16 goals from 37 games. I'm his first season in the PL he scored 5 goals from 34 games. In his second PL season he scored 24 goals from 36 games. I wonder how many Leicester fans were shouting for him to be removed from the team after season 1? We just need to be patient.
