Always possible against top sides but we were dire and so fortunate not to let in 6 plus. Bit harsh to say picked wrong team. When you are so outplayed last thing you need is to give a goal away, from a free kick cross. 60/70 % Of time we were in there half we gave ball away. Not sure if just bad passing or nobody made themself available. I think Mooy is our best midfielder but Potter doesnt take Stevens or Propper off let alone leave them out. Burn has done an ok job filling in but he is a terrible full back.. He will be glad to get back to centre against Leicester. Maupay and Connolly will learn by watching a replay of how Utd forwards made space and retained ball.

There's no doubt we played much better at Old Trafford in all our performances there under CH, including the FA Cup game. I'm all for Potterball at home and away against the average teams, but when it comes to playing away against the 'big six', it would be better for us to try and contain them. You could argue that this approach didn't work for Chris as we only picked up one point from those matches, but in a lot of the games we came close to nicking a result (unlucky not to win at OT, should have got a late equaliser at Anfield, conceded late at Spurs). When the games are so tight, there's always a chance. There is no way we can compete offensively against these teams, we are always going to be on for a mauling. It's just naive, really. A bit of CH's pragmatism when it comes these matches is needed.

Yes but as EVERY pundit and man u fan will tell you. All you have to do Vs man u is sit back and be compact and try and hit them on break or from set pieces.

Leicester and Chelsea have attempted to attack them at OT and have got beat. We have done similar and got pounded today. 6-1 wouldn't have been harsh.

Brian Owen has tweeted that Solskjaer has said in the post match press conference that Man U targeted the passing of Stephens and Propper. That shows a respect for what makes our team tick. He clearly has a higher regard for them than you do. The success of this tactic may explain our ineffective performance. Simply out thought and I’m sure Potter will devise a counter.

That’s what Hughton did. We played really well against Man U in every single CH game and still nearly went down last season playing dull, dull football.

Potter has shown we will play our football come what may. The only way to judge that as a successful tactic is to see where we are at the end of the season, and what our STH renewal rate is.

Personally I’m worried that the only other team who are beatable if you sit back are Palace. But I’d take our start to this season over our end to last season every day and twice on Sunday.

Poor today, obviously. Also didn’t get the rub of the green with their goals and also VAR. Last weeks win was so key. I’d rather we lost 3 and won 3 than drew 6 obviously & I think many on here have been intelligent enough to appreciate under Potter’s style there will be the occasional game like today. The players simply didn’t perform or pass like we know we can. Keep the faith and let’s just make sure we stay up so Potter et al can really build in the Summer. It’s been very enjoyable this season.

Somewhat predictable to me, we needed our injured players and the missing left-sided midfielder against top half of the table teams. Full backs that don't go AWOL, forwards and midfielders that can use both feet. We just edged possession, passing and ball retention stats. Starting XI (in hindsight) turned out to be wrong? I sort of thought this might happen as well.

I'm just talking about our approach to top 6 games.

Funnily enough mourinho was talking about the same thing on super Sunday. Chelsea have also started poorly against the best teams this season. Similar to potter , lampard has tried to play the same attacking formations against the better teams. Him and potter will learn from experience that pragmatism that is required against the best.
