You've said it now! It certainly sets it up for tomorrow, every Brighton player must feel that little bit more positive after that result.
Because we managed to lose against Southampton, at home?

Extreme result - yes, but still highlights our own problems when an away team can score 9 goals in one game, the same as we've managed in the whole first 2 months of our season. Let's hope we've got our shooting boots on tomorrow.

Well - it looks like Watford, Norwich and Southampton are heading straight for the drop - 32-33 points could be enough to avoid relegation this season.

It actually looks that way but Newcastle will be in the mix as well. Every one of them will change Managers if they are still in trouble come February.

Way, way too early to make those kind of presumptions. Especially considering our points total so far

Norwich have a nailed-on three points on Sunday at home to Manchester United and then come to us. No doubt we'll dominate, hit every shot straight at Tim Krul, have a man sent off and lose to a 98th-minute goal from Pukki.

Quite apart from the psychological trauma they will take from this, thats worse than a 0 points for a defeat. That is in effect a -1 point defeat. Their GD has been completely massacred now for the season, thats effectively an extra point they've just binned off in 1 game. Newcastle moved up a place out of the relegation zone tonight without kicking a ball.

Lovely.

Hows that ?

A superior GD is effectively as good as a point over a team below you. You can call it half a point, or a quarter of a point, or a bit of a point, but whats the point ?

If you're level on points with a team, but your GD is better, then between those two teams it might as well be a point - hence, "EFFECTIVELY" its a point. Nobody deals in half-points do they.

as you know, GD only matters on equal points, so GD can't be worth a point.

It can't be worth half a point either then. Its arbitrary, which is why 'effectively' always has to be inserted when talking in these terms. Half a point makes it seem like thats actually something thats being awarded, but the League has never dealt in half-points. People say that a superior GD is "as good as a point" - nobody says "we're 0.5 points ahead thanks to GD".

You're not being a nob. Its just been a long week for everyone.
