It wasn't blowing a gale out there, the pacemakers were there to keep his pace on track, protection from a slight wind wouldn't have made a huge amount of difference. Running as part of a pack is psychologically easier that and the metronomic pace keeping is the real benefit.

Even if it was perfectly still, he’d still have been running into an effective wind of 13 mph. Drafting behind the pacemakers would still make a big difference.

Incredible piece of running.......yes he had help, but it’s still remarkable and up there with Bannister’s sub 4 for me. It won’t be matched in a true race for a very long time but it’s still astonishing - his km splits are mad. Amazing.

I personally don’t see this as indication that a sub 2hr marathon is close to being officially recorded. He had pacemakers all the way providing a wind shield. That makes a huge difference.

It's a fair opinion, but I completely disagree. He set the whole thing up to help him run the time, but he still had to run the time. He still had to dedicate his whole life to achieving something no other person has done. It's an incredible achievement and it's not lessened by having the right team around him to support him and help him get there. Next step is to run a sub-2 in race conditions.

Back to the reality of the world - I was a bit unlucky this morning at East Brighton, the course record holder showed up and ran a 2nd quickest time of all time on the course, 16:05. Far too quick, I can't be getting that. He beat me into second by about a kilometer. :lolol: I ran a 19:10ish (pending official confirmation). It was probably the wrong day for a debut there, I should maybe have hit Peacehaven because of the ideal conditions. I had it in my mind that I wanted to do East Brighton for the first time, so I did. 22nd different course for me and a 3rd silver medal in 5 weeks. When the course is dry, I do think I'd be able to get closer to 18:30, not sure I could go a whole lot quicker because it does change your pace multiple times at various points.

Ideal conditions down at Preston Park this morning..... Cool, no wind, and a course about 80 yards short thanks to the cone on the first turn being in the wrong place!!! 90 odd PBs as a result, many of them obliviously happy with their efforts, just don't ask the IAAF to ratify it!

Met up with Mr Blobby this morning for the Sofia Half. It was a great event. After a lack of training I managed to hit my 2 revised targets. First we both beat Kipchoge’s time, me by nearly 4” and second I managed to stop Mr Blobby getting a full and half marathon double over me in 2019!

Brilliant. Does this count as an away win for England?

There'll be a bunch people (including me) on this thread kicking themselves for missing it. Was the culprit also running??

An unofficial sub 2 hour marathon record on Saturday, followed by the women's official marathon record being SMASHED by over a minute today. Quite a weekend in the marathon world!

A windless Worthing for me. Some good runners out there today, with around 10 of them getting 80%+ AG. I wasn't one of them: 21.51 @76.05% for me.

And now for the Junior Parkrun update...

Another Sunday morning soaking for my kids, but not quite so wet as last week. The slightly less-worse weather resulted in a bigger turn-out than last week so they finished in a highly commendable 7th (8yr old son) and 8th (10 yr old daughter) with AGs in the high sixties. My daughter notched her 6th First Placed Female overall and her third in a row, so she was chuffed with that, especially as it was her one year anniversary of JPR and her 50th event. Next week she gets her '50 Runs' wristband before the start, and her brother will get his in a few of weeks as he is now on 47 JPRs.

Multi-lap marathon in the Ashdown Forest today. Did the first 4 laps very comfortably and felt great, but then tweaked a calf near the start of the 5th lap so bailed at the end of that after 26.4 miles. Really wanted to do 6 or 7 laps but didn’t want to make the pull/tear any worse and face a long layoff.

Incredible amounts of lying water on the trails. Lots of splashing through ankle deep puddles and mud. Good fun and a MASSIVE Pooh-themed medal [emoji23][emoji23]

Well the running gods truly are pissing on my parade at the moment. Following the cancellation of the Leicester Half Marathon last week I entered the Great Eastern Run instead. We were on the start line in the POURING rain at 10am,at 10.20am we were advised there would be a 10 minute delay due to an issue on the course. At 10.40am we were asked to be patient and that they were trying to get things moving but there had been a serious incident. Finally at 11am, after an hour on the start line the race was called off due to a bomb threat to the race. Took another hour in the rain to get my bag back from the baggage drop.

Turns out to have been a well meaning member of the public that had in good faith reported a man acting suspiciously on the course however police have since said that the person misinterpreted the situation.

Was the right decision when looked at objectively as if a bomb had gone off and organisers had ignored a potential threat they would have rightly been hung for it. Still a right ball ache to have spent money on a night in a hotel and an evening meal just to stand in the rain for over 2 hours.

Headed out last night to try to run my first 13.1 since July 31st 2016.

I found a nice steady pace early on and just stuck with it. It all went very well and Strava says I completed it in under 1:54. As my only aim was to see if I could manage the distance, I’m delighted.

The run took me to 44 miles for the week, much of what was muddy hills with the dog.

I think I need to take it easy for a few days now!

Ha! No, normally the volunteer that takes it down there marshalls at that turning point. They may well have been on the payroll of someone's determined PB attempt! I remember it happening before, the 1k parkrun marker is down there but not as far as the turn point and it's been mistaken for it as its the first one you come to.

It's funny actually, I also thought about entering that! A mate of mine lives in Wellingborough, so I was going to stay up there on saturday night and run the race on the sunday. I didn't end up doing it though - and luckily not! Madness.

Sunday of this week brings THE 10k showdown of the year - me vs big nuts at the Arena 80ac 10k. 9am start time is NOT ideal, knocky1 needs to have a word with his mates about getting that fixed for next year! Madness. This week I will be focusing on nothing else. It's going to need a sub-38 time to nick the win between us for sure.

You think 9am is too late?

Is it down on the seafront? Depending on Jnr Challen's football match timings, I might time my run (a late one for me) to pass by when things are underway...

Good luck with the pre-match build-up both – and may the fastest man win
