Its not just one red card though is it. It is effectively 3 and could easily have been 4 vs Spurs. He has only played 26 games now the opposition would be aware he is a red card waiting to happen it would be so easy make that statistic much worse. Not baffling at all.

Which then begs the question - why get rid of him 4 games into the season, when we can't even bring in a replacement ? The "panic" isn't because he's been binned off - its justified concern over what we've now been left with.

If Locadia and Andone had been jettisoned a month ago during the window, then I would absolutely be expecting us to bring in reinforcements to supplement a creaking middle aged striker on his last legs, a second division striker stepping up, and an untried U23. Had the window closed on deadline day leaving us just with those 3 as a strikeforce going into a PL season, then the gale-force floods of piss on here would've made Dorian look like a puddle in a light breeze.

Whether you rated them or not, losing two senior strikers after the window closed, without replacing them, has now left us woefully short up top. And god help us if Murray gets a twinge.

THATS the issue.

My issue relates entirely to his recklessness and red misty eyed approach to the game... if Murray were to get injured and Andone were his replacement, well, we’d be lucky if he managed two games before his ‘thigh strain’ returned or he put a leg breaker in on someone’s head and we lost him for four games. That and he’s not prolific, nor is he a team player... he’s about Andone and no one else.

His level was a comedy Palace showing and Huddersfield (circa 18/19), who let’s face it must have been shocking to have lost to us twice!!

Seriously he will not be missed, injury crises or not.

Locadia I would have (maybe) retained as a less unmanageable back up, but alas I fear he didn’t like that plan and whoosh he was gone... oh well.

I think the Southampton game finally convinced GP that Andone cannot be trusted. He'd heard the rumours, and then saw him let everyone down.

Last season we had Murray, Locadia and Andone. This season we have Murray, Maupay and Connolly. So this idea of not replacing players is a myth, we’re not lighter in numbers and we’re no more vulnerable to injuries than we were.

The only remaining question is whether we think the current three are weaker than last season’s three. Well Murray is still here so ignore him, meaning it’s Maupay and Connolly v Locadia and Andone. We know the latter pair managed 7 goals in over 60 games. Do I think the former pair can beat that? Yes I do.

This board is full of absolute drama queens. Jesus, we’ve got rid of a couple of barndoor strikers and replaced them with two guys who have the potential to do much better. It’s not like we’ve sold Messi and replaced him with Alistair John.

I wish he'd known before August 8th. Like I say, it wasn't really hindsight on anyone elses part was it.

I agree with all that. Additionally of course we only just finished about the relegation places and I thought the idea was that this season we were to improve and look to hold our own in the PL. I cannot see that happening, a relegation scrap beckons.

That’s true but it was true last season, it’ll be true next season and it’s true for every club in the Premier League. Show me a club similar to us that could lose its main striker and feel no effects. Other than City, Liverpool and Arsenal, I’m struggling to think of a single club in the entire league with guaranteed goalscorers as second and third choices.

What I find ridiculous is that not a single person who shares your view right now has been singing the praises of Locadia or Andone in the last year. In fact many people have spent that time mocking them, particularly Locadia. Yet now they’re gone we’re supposedly much weaker and without hope. Do you not entertain the possibility that shifting two failures in front of goal and taking a chance on two new guys MIGHT just pay off?

It might. I bloody hope so, because its a big ask. Ideally I thought GP was going to get a tune out of Andone, and right up until that red card, it really looked to me like he was. Now we've got very little in reserve, still left relying on Old Man Murray to stay fit and drag us through another relegation dogfight, otherwise we're taking punts on total inexperience.

On paper, we probably have just about the weakest forward line in the division now. The only proven quality we have is the guy who we keep on asking to go back to the well. I was always going to be horrified if Glenn was going to be the main man AGAIN this season, and well...here we are.
