It was eat it or go hungry when I was growing up, and the same for my kids. They both eat most things now although my daughter still doesn't like liver.
She became quite clever at food 'slipping' off her fork so the dog could snaffle it up from the floor.

This is what I consider to be normal . . . . although I like liver, particularly in pate form. I usually think my son is fussy, but I think he's pretty normal, for a teenager.

Things I don't like are celery, parsnips, basil, rhubarb, gooseberries and avocados.
I did give them all ago in order to find this out and didn't just point blank refuse them, you can add radishes and olives to that as well.

There are things I don't particularly like but I have tried them. I don't understand people who won't try new foods unless they have an allergy or similar.

how do you know you have an allergy if you don't try ? most allergies are psychological I reckon. when Arthur was little, mrs Zef wondered about allergies, I gave him a man size sliced of peanut butter on toast, he woofed the lot. next!

Do Vegetarians or Vegans count as fussy eaters? If not, why not? What about members of certain religions who are forbidden to eat certain foods? Serious question!

My daughter ate the vast majority of things when she was single and at home. She was in her late twenties, married when she started with an allergy with an apple. Her lips swelled up and her mouth became very uncomfortable. She put it down to maybe the apple was sprayed with something dodgy.
Over the next few months she found out that kiwi fruit, raspberries and similar also affected her.
She went on a spa weekend with my son in law, and had a smoothie, particularly asking that none of the above fruit were in it, and became very ill. Son in law drove her to hospital gasping for air, when she was sick out of the car window, which fortunately relieved her symptoms.

Our bodies can change. I developed hay fever when I was 63.

I don't see how being forbidden to eat something because of your religion could be classed as fussy.

As for vegetarians and vegans; for most I'd say it's an ethical choice and thus not fussy. For others, certainly a few I've met, they don't like the taste of meat. Not liking the taste of something isn't fussy, IMO.

I'm not sure people abstaining from eating meat and dairy for ethical reasons can be described as fussy to be fair.

I don't eat certain foods due to them giving me gout, this doesn't make me fussy, it simply means I'm avoiding being in excruciating pain for about a week.

No, but my dog is[emoji35][emoji35]

Beat me to it. My previous dog ate anything you put in front of her.

This one is a proper fussy little bugger!

Our bodies can change. I developed hay fever when I was 63.

I became allergic to Almonds at 46 after scoffing them since I was a bloody kid! Opened a packet of them, started munching away - as I had for the past 40 years, and it was as if someone had poured alloy wheel cleaner into my gob! Whole mouth went numb, throat went numb - I thought I'd been Novichocked!!!

I also became allergic to horses at 40 - but thankfully not through eating them.... A 'Cowboy Trail' horse ride at Center Parcs one year ended up with my eyes swelling up so badly I looked like one of those bubble-eyed Goldfish. Bummer, as I love horses. Beautiful creatures, of which I now cannot get within six feet of :glare:

It's horrible isn't it. My other half is allergic to walnuts and pecans. Every other nut is fine.

Surprisingly for teenagers, they're not. Just one or two disliked items such as mushroom, and one of them can't stand olives.

This might be because they got used meals with a variety of veg and flavours from an early age, with no options, all the food already served on their plates.

Swedish friends recently visited and they envied that. Their fussy 14 and 10 year olds, experience family mealtimes where the veg choices are placed in the middle of the table on serving plates. All optional and amicable, so they've been able to spend their childhoods opting out of fruit and veg entirely.

Exactly the same for me, but to walnuts, started age 50! Have never previously had any food allergies.

Relieved it isn't almonds, as I adore their flavour in frangipanes, Bakewell Tart, even Almond Magnums.

I'm used to be a fussy eater as a kid. I remember going through a phase of not eating anything with onions in it.

And as for salad stuff, tomatoes etc, forget it.

I think what changed me was cooking for myself. There is something about making your own food that makes you want to eat it all.

I seem to able to eat anything now, including all of the above.
