That's partly what I was saying earlier. Questions need to be asked, IMO...
Why ? The recruitment team has been bloody good, 80+% success. There will always be a dud or 2 in there, but they will be always improving their strategy.

Having PL status and money is a new thing for us.

Guess what? I have a feeling that when a PL club signs a player, this does not automatically mean the player will be a success, and the team will become better and better, season after season, until they win the PL, FA cup and CL every season.

Instead I have a feeling that some signings work out and others don't, but when a club is playing in the PL the costs will be higher than they had been before, and this may appear disconcerting.

I also have a feeling that bears shit in the woods. Could be wrong, of course....

This. Some signings work, some don’t. £17m and £14m fees give absolutely no guarantees at PL level. Look at the transfer blunders by Palace, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Leicester in recent seasons. Expensive players panned across their fan bases, then sold for a loss or on their way out in loans.

Before the season started, my complete guess was that 2 out of the 4 (Izquierdo, Locadia, Andone and Jahanbakhsh) will be established GP players come September 2020. The other 2 would’ve been moved on. I wasn’t sure which.

That they were his is a big assumption.

It's not that big, is it? Trossard was signed early in the window. Ashworth's strength is the young England set-up, so it wasn't him. Potter's lot were hardly tracking the best players in the Belgian league for Swansea. We also know on record that we were after Maupay when he signed for Brentford, and have been after him all window. Most of the evidence points towards them being Winstanley's. And, to repeat, the quality of the signings we've had under Winstanley has been extremely impressive. Granted, Locadia and Ali J haven't been up to much, but the latter was signed in the same window as Bernardo and Bissouma.

Because three big money signings made around the same time have, so far, failed to live up to expectations. One you would expect, two would be annoying, but all three (at a value close to £50m)? Worth a bit of investigation, I would say.

Maybe it's coincidence and the duds have come all at once, but...

OK,

Locadia 14m
Jahanbakhsh 17m

I assume you mean Andone ? Jury not returned a verdict yet so I'm not sure you mean him but... 5.4m

36 million rounded to the nearest 50 million ?

He's only played for the U23s so far, right? Was he not expected to go out on loan at all?

I expect him to go on loan, for sure. But whether he will or not remains to be seen.

If you are talking about Ahannach going out on loan since he has been at Albion, he joined Sparta Rotterdam on a six-month loan in January 2018. He had scored one goal in 12 Eredivisie starts when he unfortunately suffered a double leg fracture in April 2018.

I was referring to whether he was expected to go out on loan this season. I haven't seen an indication that he'll be part of our first team yet.

We have a player who is currently in the Argentina squad, playing CM for Boca Juniors and you are calling his signing nonsense? Tau looked like the best player on the same pitch as Salah a few weeks ago. Sure the recruitment team have made some mistakes but it looks like a certainty that we will make a profit on both if they don't end up playing here and there's still a fair chance they do next year.

If Trossard had failed we'd have the same complaints about buying players from Belgium/ the Netherlands. It doesn't seem like there's any real change in strategy to me: we just made a couple of bad signings in Locadia and Ali J.

The slight issue I have with your first paragraph is that neither have actually played for us. Given the other duff signings, it would’ve been nice if they’d actually been able to play here rather than us hearing about how amazing they are going to be next season.

Sorry, £40m. The overall point still stands. Still a huge chunk of money over a short period of time on players that haven't shown their value.

Absolutely. No one who recruits, in any line of business, gets it right all the time. Also, maybe the team were following a clear strategy set by the Chairman and/or CEO...who are also learning the PL ropes to varying degrees. Maybe that strategy has changed......maybe Ashworth now has more input......none of us know so simplistically saying Winstanley needs to be pushed out due to a couple of signings that haven’t worked out as well as we’d hoped is a bit of a stretch IMO.

According to me (with the help of the Anita’s highlights). He was a mile off.

Knew he was offside all along, defender ran back later in the phase, just impossible to tell some people on here.

When asked about a possible loan by The Argus reporter last night GP said he had nothing to report, which is the answer that you would expect him to give either way.

Need to look at the previous frame when he actually connected.

My thoughts to. In real time I think he was onside when the ball left Murray’s head. One of those defenders at the edge of the box was playing him on and then stepped up

This keeps coming up but I've got to ask, why does a still image of when the ball wasn't played conclusive proof of being a mile offside?

He was so far offside, one frame was not going to make you right I'm afraid. Hope this helps.

Shame nobody can get a clip of the corner and the eventual shot because I still think you are wrong...although that shot does seem to back up your argument
