I was just about to post a single season-long official VAR thread, along with a POLL.

However, there are already two VAR threads out there just today. [MENTION=6886]Bozza[/MENTION] do you want me to merge them and add the poll or leave as they are?

If you do, have the option ‘Would you likeVAR but more in a context that works for other sports.

until VAR decisions become almost instant, I just see it as a pain in the arse for fans.

I think some folks liking of VAR will be directly proportionate to the decisions that go their way.

There you go. The rules are the rules. Same thing happened in baseball with umpires using replays. Players had to learn not to slide past the base because the video could "see" the slight difference that umpires couldn't recognize before.

Maybe all along players were offside BY RULE and referees didn't care to "see" it because they're eyes are not that good at differientiating the difference. The rules are the rules.

At the Amex this season I won't celebrate any goal we score until it's verified with VAR now in place. Going to be strange not celebrating until 30 seconds to a minute after the ball hits the net. Going to be a bit like the tennis. Oh well, that's progress.

VAR is ok, arguably the offside law isn't with VAR in place.

Correct the rule isnt up to and in line with the VAR standards. I think that it should be amended and only given if it is the feet, knees or head are offside. these are what you score most goals with.

Ps just seen the VAR of 3rd goal how can that be given and the other disallowed as I thought his arm looked further forward than Jesus. one.

My wife brother got a new computer when they very first came,one Christmas he spent days programming it to get a little cartoon fella to walk across the screen.
He was so impressed that he’d done this, showed it to me, and when I pointed out there were cartoons on telly that did it better, he was a tad miffed.
This is what this version of VAR is, FA being a 12 year old boy ruining Christmas.

You can also celebrate when a goal is disallowed against us after VAR is invoked. What is there not to like?

Most of us will agree that it's good to rule out a goal when it's well offside, and equally to allow a goal when it's determined that it was onside (when the linesman thought it probably wasn't).

So all we're discussing is how much offside it needs to be for VAR to rule it.

What do we do with decisions on the ball crossing the line? Does it have to cross the line by a few inches? No, it's the tiniest measurement they're able to make. What if the ball was pretty much all past the line - well, all but 1mm? Then it's no goal. The decision will come down to 1mm, and we accept that.

Now you could change VAR such that if the linesman doesn't flag for offside, the goal stands unless they're at least 1 foot offside (like umpires call in cricket), if that's something they're able to measure. But as it is it's no big deal. He was offside by the tiniest of margins, but he was offside.

Who is to say how far the rules are to be enforced? You enjoy football for your own reasons. Learn not to be offside. Don't depend on the referee not to enforce the rules because he can't see it as well as the replay. It changes the game but it is THE RULES.
