The thing that concerns me is his motivation. On the assumption and hope he does well with us, he's put himself in an awkward position because for us to keep him will take a big fee, given he'll have 2 years left on his contract. Presumably the sell on clause City placed on the deal remains in tact so Huddersfield will need to add a premium to any fee to negate that. If Huddersfield don't get promoted, he goes back to them a Championship (or League 1, frankly, their squad is crap) club he's going to be stuck.

I'm not in any way shape or form blown away by this signing but I have faith in the vision of the club. I'll be sad to see Beram Kayal leave as a consequence, Hughton's first signing when he took over all those years ago!

Great signing. Always been impressed by him, and had hoped he would join us when we first got promoted. I’d have him in the starting XI ahead of Stephens.

I am confused as to why people are confused by the new contract. Unusual situation but makes perfect sense.

If you're Huddersfield- why let someone valuable go on loan when their contract is out at the end of the year? You'd be better selling him now for almost any price than doing this.

If you're Brighton- loan is probably better than a buy here if the asking price is on the high side. For someone of his age, seems more sensible to pay to borrow for a year and see how he does than have a big outlay on him now. Would rather we spend big money on younger players.

If you're Mooy- you want to play in the premier league. If someone bought you now that's perfect. On the other hand, if no one is paying the asking price, making a deal with Huddersfield that they'll let you go on loan for the year if you sign a new contract, likely with some sort of clause that could be triggered next year if they don't get promoted, that's a pretty good deal.

Seems like a win win really.

Happy its done.

Good window for us with our budgets wages wise. As good as can hope

If its not good enough then can't see too much finger pointing going on.

If we go down we will be strong

Never heard of a player signing a new contract and then going on loan to a team in a higher division before.

Plenty of times a young player signs a contract and goes to a lower team, but none I can remember like this.

Especially if we've signed them!

Interesting to see that the "leaked" photo posted with the Yapi story looks like it was the official photo from the club and not a photoshop job:

Good post, ending some of my confusion over the new contract. Would be great to have option to buy as well, especially if Udders stay in Championship (or drop lower) and a big discount is available in those circumstances.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Excellent bit of business, great cover while Baluta, Alzate and co get up to speed. Very pleased.

Or until Alexsis Mac Allister and Percy Tau finally get to pull on the stripes.

Horses mouth:

'Huddersfield Head Coach Jan Siewert said: “Aaron was adamant that he wanted to test himself again in the Premier League when Brighton’s interest came in, and we didn’t want an issue where we had a disillusioned player on the pitch in the final year of his contract.

“We had to look after the interests of Huddersfield Town and couldn’t let him leave on a free at the end of the season, so him signing a new contract ahead of his loan move gives the Club and the player possibilities for the future.

“Good luck to him at Brighton this season.”
