Well no, because it's pretty unlikely to change if I'm being trolled by club announcements for the women's team, it's annoying and putting me off the women's team.

... there are people changing every day to become more interested in the women's team - and highlighting all the fantastic signings they are making is one way to get people to change.

Highlighting the signings is absolutely fine. Put them front page on the club site, hell, even use the email address that I used to register my interest in the men's team. But don't try and make the email look like we've signed someone for the men's team, that's just annoying and turns me against your cause.

The most obvious place to build a fanbase for Brighton and Hove Albion is with the existing fans of Brighton and Hove Albion, and the most obvious way to demonstrate that the club considers these teams equals and two halves of the Albion name is to treat them the way they are.

Don't be daft, they're not equal halves of the Albion name.

There's loads more that can be done but I'm delighted they're not being stuck in he corner and unbelievably proud of Tony Bloom, Paul Barber and the rest for what they are doing for the women's game in Sussex.

I agree. I don't want them stuck in the corner, I'd like to see them supported and celebrated. But let's not suddely pretend that the last 118 years of Albion history is equally for the women's team, or that just as many fans go to see the women's team as the men's. It doesn't achieve anything to kid yourself.

They have to be seen to report it as an equal to the men , that's the world ( well country ) we live in.

If they put 'men's' in the title for news related to the men's team, and 'women's' in the title for news related to the women's team, that would be treating them equally.

Like it or lump it every single team we have will be referred to as 'Albion' or Seagulls or whatever the hell they like. So when you get an email saying 'Albion sign BlahBlahBlah' they are being factually accurate.

FFS the club has consistently been about inclusivity and togetherness so why would they use exclusive names in their marketing.

The women are part of the football club. They're going to be called Albion in communications for as long as they exist I should imagine and people will have to learn to get on with it. Or just f**king ignore it for gawds sake.

If the club are serious about making a statement re the women's team, then maybe they could arrange for them to play somewhere in Brighton or Hove. Yes, I KNOW not everybody lives there, but the clue is in the name. How do you grow interest when supporting the women's team invariably involves trundling up and down to Crawley by replacement bus?

Sorry. Not trying to play a race card but just couldn’t think of a better example at the time of writing. I probably should have said U23’s or something. The point was that they all play for BHAFC so why the need to separate it all in emails.

Look, the slightly deceptive emails aren't something that RUINS peoples day. Nobody is going on a crazed killing rampage after opening an email that subtly pretends to be about the mens team (as it always used to be in the past) but now actually isn't. Its just a mild irritant that everyone now has to temper their expectation, and bear in mind that when the club formally announces a new signing, the chances are its not actually a signing for the mens team, it probably refers to the other team that about 250-300 people turn up to watch (with most of them being friends and family).

Its all very right-on and inclusive of course. But its a bit like VAR - you can't really celebrate anything now without waiting and checking first.

Not the BHAFC I actually go and watch though. And no matter how much they endlessly plug it, I'm not going to be brow-beaten into taking an interest in the womens team. They're just not on my radar, as is the case with 99% of the core support of this club.

Is it devious ? Well it would be less devious to put the player's name in the email title, wouldn't it ?

To what end ? No idea, it is pointless - unless they enjoy the negative reaction. Possibly just some marketing suit gets to feel 'smart' for a second or two.

Total time - c20 seconds, most of which is in the optional 'have a quick read of the email' bit. Struggling to understand the issue - it's just a bit of club news to read or ignore in the same way they message about kit sales, hospitality packages and the like

Frequency - perhaps once a fortnight, I duuno - but it's a totally insignificant amount of time spent

Even before opening the mail I'll KNOW it's not for the men's team anyway, because any new signings are signalled elsewhere (on here, twitter, facebook, Sky Sports, messages from pals etc etc) way before the official email is sent, so I could just delete it...................................

What they should have (and maybe do have, but I've not checked) is an "unsubscribe" section or a section that allows us to choose the types of emails we get. Personally I'm not worried about who the ladies team sign so I'm not worried about getting their emails. Consequently it would be good to be taken off of that email list (which is super easy for the club to do).

Have I missed a way to limit club communications to specifically what I want to hear about? If not, should the club offer an opt-out of news spam for Women's, or even U23 for those that just don't care...?

To be fair they are trying to be deliberately misleading with headlines like “Albion sign new keeper”
All they need to do is put “ladies” after Albion but no and it is getting a bit tedious now

Because people get a bombardment of comms each and every day!! Where have you been? Are you isolated on an island somewhere (with wi fi obviously)? It’s like being repeatedly called by ambulance chasers. People tend to get annoyed when their day is interrupted regularly by someone or something thats of no interest to them. Whether a call, an email, leaflet in the street. It’s all the same. The Albion are being a bit annoying here. Be very simple to do.

I don’t support the women’s team, I’m not interested. Arsenal don’t send me team updates, neither do Grimsby or Swindon, why won’t the Albion send the updates to those that are interested and stop spamming those of us who don’t give a shit.

So many people are missing the point about so why many people are getting annoyed. It has nothing to do with being remotely sexist as a progressive club it is absolutely right that the club puts out there all the women's football news. What irks is that it's a quite deliberate piece of clickbait and no doubt somewhere statistics will misleadingly suggest that the hits prove a certain level of interest in the women's game. It doesn't need this sleight of hand. The recent World cup has proved an increased interest. However, and I make no apology for it, I'm just not that excited about the Albion's woman's team. Just simply make it obvious in the headline that it relates to the women.

Personally I'm not worried about who the ladies team sign so I'm not worried about getting their emails. Consequently it would be good to be taken off of that email list (which is super easy for the club to do).
