You're probably right, but from what I've seen game by game in the PL - he is no worse nor more injury prone than both Locadia and Andone... Both need to improve vastly in my eyes to warrant being considered a proven better option than Tomer. Locadia in particular was massively underwhelming last season, Andone tenacious but lacking real quality in my eyes. I'm not saying Tomer is the answer, but he's capable of asking questions of those two for sure.

Lest we forget how atrocious we were towards the end of last season... we just, just mind, survived... GP has a huge task to prove the worth of several of last years arrivals... Tomer being around is no bad thing imho.

Until we see how GP is backed in the transfer window it’s tough to even contemplate our chances. As has been said before it is possible we could be moving towards a Hyppia type appointment if he doesn’t get the players he needs.

He might already have the players he wants.
Seemingly the same couldn't be said of his predecessor.

Whoever was destined to be in charge next season needed to be backed in the transfer market...or we’d be going down imo.

a galaxy far far away
Giving Tomer another year is an exercise in keeping our options open in my view.

Potter will get to look at him in pre-season and either ...... Give him a squad number (possible) or Loan, or more likely sell him just before deadline day (probable)

Beyond the normal turnover of players the one signing that I'm properly excited about is the one that isn't even on any radar.

The new striker.

The club must be getting one and that'll be the signing that will show us the expectations of next season.

This is a sideshow. There's no way Hemed is getting near the Prem matchday squad next season. However, he will score double figures in the Championship under the right manager and I'd like to see him at a play-off contender.

Really?

Are we that much better equipped with strikers than we were in Aug 17?

What would you guess is the pecking order for being the lone striker atm.
1. Murray
2. Andone
3. Locadia
4. Hemed

Then it's Dev Squad like Gyorekes/Connolly. I really don't think he's far from the matchday squad until we sign some other strikers. Couple of injuries, or Potter favouring a front 2, and he's suddenly looking at STARTING games.

Or in the battle at the bottom anyway. We've had a bottom 5 squad for both seasons in the Premier League, and therefore 15th and 17th is top end of where we could expect. If Potter can turn the current squad into mid-table furniture 12-15th, then fantastic, and I'll take my hat off to him, but to expect it is a BIG ask without some serious backing in the transfer market.

If that's where we feel we should be then we need to be spending a new club record on a striker, and we have to get past losing out on targets because the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth and Newcastle come in for them. That's who we are saying we should be competing with, and that includes players. We can't say "we can't compete with them" in transfers and then set "competing with them" as the minimum for the manager.

Can't see Murray starting many games next season. Bound to be a couple of signings.

You are not paying attention. He may get a chance but this almost certainly a move to get money for him rather than him walk away on a free, well I bloody hope so anyway

To attract the best players our playing style is key, even if it is having first pick from the best from the lower English leagues. Unfortunately our advert for recruiting players will be based on a style that what was very clear to see from the turn of the new year as cautious and powder puff in the final third, and you would wonder if anyone would pass to you if you put yourself in a good position on the pitch if you signed for us.

As an example; If Hughton was in competition for a signing from the lower leagues with Eddie Howe, then Eddie Howe would always get the player unless we offered considerably more in wages.

All signings have to be convinced that the playing style will suit them and their career. If Potter's style is attractive on the eye we are in a much better position to sell our football to targeted players. I don't think that any sought after player worth his weight in gold would sign for us right now.

Off the top of my head I cannot even think of one signing where we had to beat off any club that was in competition to sign the same target as us. I might stand corrected be we have only signed players for the first team when there has been no other bids.

Leicester wanted AJ.

Players at the end of a contract don't usual sign another deal so that their owning club can then punt them on. They prefer to be free agents so that the bulk of any transfer fee goes to them as a signing-on fee.

It would seem strange that Hemed wilfully re-signed to us so I can only guess we had an option on extending the deal that he had no say but to agree to.

(Someone has probably made this point already - I've not read the thread)
