The 4 home wins of West Ham, Swansea, Huddersfield & Leicester will be tough, with no guarantees of the 3 points to us.

West...West.......WEST SUSSEX
Unless I've missed something, we're not playing either at the moment though.

Realise that fact Bozza just hoping their flaky form carries on to when we do play them. Unlikely I know but there is always hope!:nono:???

Probably working!
Of the games for 0 points;

H Arsenal
A Everton
A Man City
H Spurs
H Man Utd
A Liverpool

I fancy us to get a couple of draws at least I really do, maybe even a freak win.

Of the games at 1 point;

A Stoke
A Crystal Palace
A Burnley

I fancy we'll get a couple extra, because desperate things happen in football.

It's all fine, could everyone just stop panicking!

But will we get the 3’s in the games we’re expected to?
It’ll be a tough slog to the end, but personally think we’ll be alright.

I'm convinced 36 will be enough, perhaps even 35.
I've had major brain freeze (or maybe some early form of dementia). I've been thinking the total might be just (like 1 or 2 points total) under a 1 point per game average, but then somehow, for a brief minute (the important one where I was working out the target) I thought there were 40 games in the season

So I'm thinking 36 or 37 points required.

the other key reason is that there are so many more teams than usual fighting for survival which will inevitably lower the required total
That's not making sense to me - surely if the points are spread quite evenly between the bottom 12 clubs, the teams in 17th / 18th will have more points than if the points are spread less evenly?

Quite sure that 32 won't be enough

There are more teams taking points off each other, which drags the totals down.

I doesn't, it means the points are spread evenly, with no teams getting lots, and no teams getting just a few. Spread less evenly the mid table teams would end up with a good number of points more than the bottom teams, and we'd need less to survive.

I disagree, but am not going to get into an extended argument about it. Let's see at the end of the season.

In the mathematics of it all, there is the added aspect that in a drawn match one point of the entire season goes missing forever. In a match with a winner and a loser, three points are awarded (and what a great three we got today). The point being that in a season with an inordinate number of draws quite a few points from the entire league just go missing altogether. This should logically mean fewer points are required for safety than the accepted norm of 40. There are probably twelve teams that are all much of a muchness, and from my recollection they do have a habit of drawing with each other.

I also feel another eight points will not be enough for safety - so we'll need a surprise to come our way before too long - no doubt amongst one of the last five nightmare games.

So a great win today, but it's still an "expected" win, to keep us just one point below par. If we play as attacking as we did today at Stoke then we will win and be into bonus point time. We won't though sadly. Come on Chris, prove me wrong and release the hounds next week and properly go for it.

Indeed. Feel free to check how many draws there have been this season compared to others (probably ignore the top 6 teams).

40 is more of a general target, rather than a norm. Teams don't normally need that many.

Worth quoting my original opening post on this thread. The Premier League is really very predictable.

Bedwetting on NSC as we only get 9 points from our first 10 games. Almost, actually 11 points.
Talk of Europe when we hit 23 points in mid December. That talk came a bit earlier in November!
Talk of relegation gain by the end of January. Yep.
Then NSC goes crazy after we reach 38 point with five matches to go Let's hope so.
NSC bedwets again as we take just 2 points from the final five matches, players on the beach, not trying etc etc etc etc etc. It really wouldn't surprise me.
