With modern communications, is there still a time delay between voices when having a telephone conversation between UK and USA.

Yes.
But signal latency can be counted in milliseconds on the highest speed networks, so it is less noticeable these days and tends not to affect regular conversation.
Not what I was hoping to hear.I have been approached by a very persistent but good scammer who claims to be calling from Boston USA. I can hold a phone conversation with him as if he were in the UK and i was hoping the absence of a delay would catch him out.

Who puts in softphone without the required bandwidth to support it??!!No doubt about it, there's even a time delay on our soft phone system at work (and we only take calls from Sussex). It makes trying to speak difficult, especially if we get on echo of our voice from their end too (which we sometimes get). Not enough bandwidth for our building I think.

Crappy headsets rather than the software usually??managers suckered in to shiny tech, but dont want to pay proper price? it may not be bandwidth though, softphones imo are a bit shite. i have daily calls with India and US, you wouldnt know the people are thousands of miles away, but will notice those on the softphone with shitty sound quality, excessive background noise or poor voice level. those on physical phones usually sound clear.
