Southampton - next British club to be bought by the Chinese?

Apparently our south coast neighbours are the next club being eyed up the Chinese for a potential take-over.

With West Bromwich , Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City already owned by them and with a deal to take over Hull also in motion, is it only a matter of time before the Albion becomes a target?

Totally agree. It's utterly depressing. How many clubs are now foreign owner? Must be the majority in the top flight. I'm also really really surprised supporters aren't kicking up more of a fuss.

Totally agree. It's utterly depressing. How many clubs are now foreign owner? Must be the majority in the top flight. I'm also really really surprised supporters aren't kicking up more of a fuss.

If that ever happens to us then I'm out.

I'd rather go and watch County League football.

They were bought by Markus Liebherr, a Swiss businessman whose company supplied many of the cranes used in Southampton docks. The Liebherr family were Bavarians who moved to Switzerland in the mid-to-late 1940s (you may suspect the involvement of Nazi gold, but I couldn't possibly comment) and Markus was a devout Christian for whom the clincher in the deal was apparently the fact that the were known as The Saints because they had been the St Mary's church team. He died unexpectedly and the club (along with most of dad's considerable wealth) passed to his daughter Katherina, who was expected to be very much an absentee owner and to be keen to sell, but has apparently been very supportive. She'd be under no great pressure to sell but I suppose if the price is right ...

Not yet we don't. Red Bull were after Nottingham Forrest in the summer but Fawaz basically ko'd the deal as he wanted to remain involved with the club.
