Yorkshire is not overcrowded and the Dales are part of a National Park. I have lived up there, so I know that there are many brownfield sites which can be developed. Orgreave, for example, was a coking plant. There is a brand new housing estate, with surgeries and a school which is now called Waverley, that has been built there. It's quite attractive as I know someone who is living there, and visited them on August bank holiday.

Have heard that Rotherham is short of Taxi drivers .

Bully for you, I lived in the Peak District, does not mean they or I wanted busy roads, congestion, boxes as houses springing up everywhere and an infrastructure that can not cope. Perhaps you do.

The Peak District is another National Park so there's no comparison with brownfield sites. The new estate I was referring to already has a dual carriageway called Parkway, running parallel, and the M1 just a mile away. The houses are definitely not boxes as I have seen for myself.

I'm just trying to get the bloke to realise that a massive civil war in Syria, combined with the rise of ISIS, has displaced millions of people, literally fleeing for their f**king lives. These people didn't just congeal in a gutter in Greece or Italy or Austria or Switzerland and think "oh, England looks jolly nice". He's being wilfully ignorant of the pain and suffering of other human beings and that f**ks me off.

Now, with that being said, I'm going to flounce out of this topic before I say anything that'll end up with me being suspended.

Good day!

Spot the Syrian .

Population density (persons per sq Km), we are twice as densily populated as Germany and three and half times that of France.

So, France is bigger with less people. That'll be why Britain looks more built up then.

As I said, you may want certain things, I do not. I await you posting up another National Park area.

Why would I do that? You're the one who is bringing up those areas. My point is that there is plenty of building land available, and have used examples to prove it.

With the greatest respect you haven't proven anything. There is so much more to planning and building standards and regulations. You also haven't seen any evidence of the background to the developments you mention in term of how they fit into existing planning i.e. Are they meeting an existing need or do they come with excess capacity. It is not your job to do this but until all of these questions are addressed we will not be in a position to tackle the immigration question properly.

Well let them take the immigrants until their country and Germany have the same population per square mile. Sorted.

It was originally an observation on how much of Britain is still not "built up", end of. Most of it will stay that way as it is either National Trust, National Parks, Greenbelt, farmland or procured by Britain's elite and Royal Family.

If the professionals and politicians can't solve the refugee/immigration problem how do you expect a few posts on a football forum to do it? I'm just giving examples of what I have seen.

From the very article you've posted:

No, not everyone in the Calais Jungle is fleeing a warzone. Those politicians and journalists whose livelihoods depend on victimising the vulnerable like to point out how many of them are, for example, black Africans, as if Sub-Saharan Africa, by mere virtue of not being Syria, is suddenly a bastion of peace and stability. As if there are not, to name just one example, 6,000 child soldiers currently fighting in the Central African Republic.

Exactly , the list of countries where people wish to escape from is vast and growing all the time .

The thing that baffles me though is how anyone resident in this Country (UK) expects them all to be given a new life here without there being a downside ,

Fair enough but the professionals and politicians have barely even tried. In the vacuum created a debate on who has the most moral high ground has developed instead. This is a macro economic problem that cannot be solved by micro economic examples and attempts at moral shaming.
By the way I also know Orgreave and the estate you mention. A relative died in the old
people's home on the edge of the village. The new development is very nice but I also read of tensions created by a disproportion of new residents securing jobs in a new company that has set up there. There was a large Leave vote in the area in the referendum. Better planning and a grown up immigration policy that accepts constraints whilst endeavouring
to re-settle people would have avoided this.

I'm hesitant to call it a downside because I don't think helping fellow human beings is necessarily an act that has a downside but there would obviously be strain on resources etc. but I don't think that means we shouldn't try and accommodate some, not all, of these people.

What riles me up is the assumption, and I'm not pointing the finger at you here; more at a section of our populace, that these people are criminals / rapists / terrorists / all around bad hombres (to quote The Great Orange) and that we should turn them all away indiscriminately. There are some undesirables, there always is, and they exist within the native population as well. It doesn't make us all bad and it doesn't make all the inhabitants of the Jungle bad either. And again I appreciate that most of the people in favour of restricted or an outright ban on immigration are in favour of it because of space / resource worries and not because of assumed criminality.

Immigration is a cornerstone of the foundation of this country, and many others. Were it not for immigration I wouldn't be here, nor would my mother, my girlfriend, at least six of my friends, many colleagues.

As an aside, apologies if I came across as rude or condescending with my posts yesterday. It was unintentional.

Whether their asylum status is legitimate or not is not the issue.

My question was whether the poster was suggesting that the actions of one man should mean no children should be allowed in.
i was suggesting that the CULTURE that is prevalent amongst these people isn't one I want here.
