Christ we've had some tough times in recessions in decades gone bye...I'll happily go back to that as long as we brexit.

I assume a lot of the posters on here wailing and gnashing teeth and forecasting doom and gloom, weren't old enough to remember three day working weeks, power cuts for hours on end, bodies piled up in makeshift morgues, waiting weeks for burial, rubbish piled 12-15 feet high in the streets and rats having a field day. Soaring interest rates and rampant, hyper inflation. Lightning strikes, pickets, ugly civil unrest on the streets, communities at war with each other and schools closed. Hospitals relying on emergency generators, that sometimes failed and the army being called onto the streets to provide cover for vital services.
Still, when you weigh it up, I suppose a falling pound is enough ammunition for us to all go and shoot ourselves.

You have to be sixtyish to remember all that stuff

From an article on the BBC 3 years ago and I quote: -

"In any case, Britain still owns far more direct investment assets overseas than vice versa. The ONS estimates that Britain currently has £1.1 trillion direct investment assets overseas, £300bn more than the rest of the world owns in the UK. Britain also typically enjoys a surplus in investment income. Since 2000, inflows of investment income have averaged 13.5% of GDP compared to outflows which have averaged 12.4% of GDP. This means each year Britain has received a net flow of investment income equal to 1.1% of GDP from the rest of the world. It just goes to show that Britain has a long history of successfully buying other countries' family silver."

I might be being a bit thick here but what has that got to do with the British car industry?

Oh yes, we've had it much worse but that was out of our control.

The current situation was easily predicted but some people thought it was worth it for all to suffer so that 30% of the population could feel independent or some other thing.

A British subsidiary of TATA. Designed and built in Britain. Also described (this week) as a British company by their Chief Exec (ok he's German).

All true but OWNED by Indians making money using the names of iconic British cars of yesteryear but they are not British anymore, even if they continue to employ the best car brains in Britain:shrug:

Being part of some sort of insular, isolationist close-minded nation who doesn't give a f about other nationals worse off than them, not having free movement for the family with EU, financially worse off in the short-term, uncertainty over economic situation long term.

hmmm
sounds like you are living in North Korea and not Brighton.

I would move if I were you…..if they let you out.

Gods country fortnightly
ONS figs out today for August show imports grew at a rate 26 times faster than exports. A weaker pound boosted exports by £100m and increased imports by £2.6b

Seems limited evidence a low sterling will help us much, inflation could be the next threat

What is totally unacceptable is the tory government lurching this country towards being an illiberal country. They dont have the remit for that and they are damaging this country in so many ways. But the tory party seems happy. The Nasty Party, hang your heads in shame

There is a huge amount of evidence that we don't, as a country, benefit from a low exchange rate. The simple reason is that we import more than we export. Brexiteers are clutching at ever-fading straws if they think the fall in sterling is good news. It is the best possible indicator that the rest of the world has lost faith in the UK. Believe me, we are in for a VERY rocky road. This is going to get dodgy, and the new REALLY nasty party is making sure that we will soon have zero friends (excluding the deluded Daily Mail immigrant-bashers). We are becoming a total embarrassment.

Of course, labour are so NICE these days, what with intolerance for anyone who doesn't support Corbyn and all the anti Semitism sloshing around.
