Managing Expectations

That'll be the old familiar 'Strikers Can't Shoot For Toffee' pattern then.

Goal scoring is all about confidence. I wish for one game Chris would take the shackles off give all the forward players a mandate to have three on target shots a game, even if that means being selfish at the expense of others from time to time, and see what that yields.

Our shots from all bar Knockaert are often powder puff and too loose to make an impact.

People seem to forget that 3/4 of the back four last night are all coming back from lengthy lay offs. Give them a break at least.

I didn't expect a big crowd.
I didn't expect a great atmosphere.
I didn't expect to see CH field our strongest 11.
I didn't expect a full sized programme (but equally I didn't expect to pay £2 for poster!).
I don't expect the club to take the EFL cup seriously when the riches of the Premier League are the main goal.

What I did expect to see is the second string at least look like they were interested in playing (with the exceptions of Manu and Goldson). These guys are unlikely to get a look-in in the league except possibly on the bench so you would expect that, when they get the chance to play (bearing in mind there is no reserve team football like the old days), they will give it their all. That was sadly lacking.

Still, there's always the Emirates FA Cup!!!!

What was learned last night that if we get promoted there is not a squad player out of that lot last night??? Elvis looking one of the better players:eek:

I wouldnt place a bet on that granted it was his first game for us but he played pre season for WBA but he looked way behind Bong in all deparments, in fact I was expecting a lot more. He was not as good defensively or getting forward and very slow as the 2nd goal showed. He must have played for Belgium when they had a poor side and can fully understand why he doesnt figure in WBA plans.

Goodness, that's a very ruthless and quick assessment ! Poor bloke probably doesn't want to be judged and written off quite that quickly.

As I said it was his first game for us but people are shouting for him to replace Bong but he showed nothing that would suggest he will, although he has caps for Belgium and said originally he wanted to stay at WBA and fight for his place. I saw nothing to suggest either was possible but it is early days so will not just write him off.

Especially when he was injured twice in nasty tackles, the first one causing a red card.

In his defence, he was crippled twice. Once thanks to Godson's amatuerish poncing about in the six yard box which resulted in Seb having to launch in to block the resulting shot and taking a bad knock. The second time when the guy went studs up on him and got sent off. He will most definitely be a good acquisition when match fit.

He must have been in some pain went he was pulled off. Welcome to the Championshp.

So the clamour for Goldson to walk back in to the team at Duffy's expense is NSC claptrap again?
Not really, everything we'd seen of Goldson prior to injury was positive. It was an absolutely natural reaction, so stop digging out your fellow fans. We all want the best for the team.

The one thing you forgot to mention was that they would have been told '' try not to pick up any injuries '' - Not an excuse for a shit performance but at the very least a mitigating circumstance.
I am of the opinion that the worst injuries occur when you are not 100% committed.

edit: I see that's already been mentioned.

That's the one thing they wouldn't have been told!

Half hearted challenges cause injuries, and psychologically it wouldn't and shouldn't be even mentioned.

I disagree, I think it would definitely have been mentioned and I agree that if we were playing in the League it wouldn't be mentioned but in a competition we are not really prioritising then I am certain it would be taken into consideration. Arguably, injuries last year could have cost us promotion. Even in isolation the injuries in the Play Off first leg match were costly.

In my opinion, that's a myth

When I played myself I would have been one of the ones likely to pull out of a challenge. Not once did I ever suffer a serious injury

Prompting one of my team mates to scream at the top of his voice...... ''Put a ****ing tackle in ya wee ****in skinny *******''

Not the best of etiquette my friends when I was growing up

Better to be the aggressor than the victim,

You would never make reference to not getting injured or saving yourself as that is the precise time when injuries happen. Sorry if you think otherwise but I would be staggered if Chris Hughton said anything relating to it, psychologically you do not bring in negativity.

Last year we were not in cup competitions in the latter stages so irrelevant.

The only type of advice offered would be quietly to an individual player on a booking and that would relate to not putting the ref in a position to make a decision (see Baldock at Newcastle).

It is not a myth, if you dangle a leg it is easier to break than a full bloodied tackle where the muscle is tensed for impact.
