Brighton - In your face
Your expectations on a centre back performance must be based on Hawkins vs Hartlepool to call Duffy phenomenal tonight.

He is an accident waiting to happen, he should be a back up for Dunk, Goldson, Hünemeier and Bruno for a centre back spot. Awful waste of £4million.

You're either blinked or blind (or didn't watch it). He lost one header out of about 40, made a little slip but recovered, and utterly dominated throughout. I would have had Dunk a little above him last night but his lack of self-control should have seen a red so Duffy was MOTM for me.

Duffy was much improved last night, Goldson will earn his shirt back soon enough though.

Goldson is most likely to get back in when Dunk gets sent off again. Dunk did his best to get himself a red again with that stupid shove in the back after the tussle with the Huddersfield forward in the second half.

Thought Duffy was very solid today. A no nonsense CB and performance especially when they were launching it late on.
Some forget Goldson took time to settle before a long run brought his consistency.

Last night was easy, there was no challenge. But his header back into no mans land shouldn't be ignored, and nor should his laughable performances at the start of the season for Blackburn - obviously in a far weaker team but the point remains, he is an accident waiting to happen and against better opposition, he's going to be a problem. Huddersfield had nothing last night, it was the easiest game of the season for our centre backs, but anyone suggesting Duffy was better than Dunk are just kidding themselves.

Do you not consider that the fact Huddersfield 'had nothing' was down to two very good performances from our centre-backs, and a largely dominant display from our first-choice midfield partnership? This is going down the same route as your constant and undeserved sniping at David Stockdale.

Well there's a bee in your bonnet. It's my opinion that Huddersfield were happy with "Brighton Nil" as their first priority, which meant they never really threatened us, so it's not really a game to judge Duffy on either way. But look at Dunk's performance, commanding and dominant. That's a £4million centre back.

I've not said anything about Stockdale for a long time, he picked up in the second season having been poor in the first. Disagree if you want, but the league table didn't lie.

I must of missed this, i could see something happening but I sit North stand so was hard to see what was happening.

When Goldson starts we will miss Duffy's heading ability. Goldson may be better all round but Duffy is better in the air. I see Duffy as a forward thinking purchase for when Dunk leaves, if indeed he does, at the end of the season. It would not surprise me if Dunk has signed a new deal with conditions attached which would ease his move to the Premiership if we do not go up this year.

Agreed, Huddersfield have scored in every game this season, until last night.

Are you serious? Good grief.

100% serious - it's not unheard of for managers to play players just so it doesn't look like a waste of money or persevering with them longer if they cost serious money? If that's made you say 'good grief' and ask if I'm serious, **** knows how you cope with the rest of NSC :ffsparr:

Didnt CH do the same at Norwich with a striker Wolfwinkle or similar name.

Very true. I'm all for persisting with players and not saying CH is going to do it here as its his opinion but I just hope personally that Goldson is back sooner rather than later. On the evidence (admittedly only 3 games) so far I feel our strongest pairing is easily Goldson & Dunk. Injuries & suspensions will follow of course..

He's not playing him though just because we spent good money on him, Goldson and Uwe are not 100% fit so Duffy has to start.

If Duffy's form is poor over the next few weeks and Goldson or Uwe are match fit you can maybe throw that one at Hughton.

I thought Duffy has his best game for us last night. I still see Goldson as the long term partner for Dunk this season, but I am delighted with our 4 centre half options which we have and need.

there are not that many Connor Goldsons floating around in the lower leagues now I would guess and even just a year on you certainly would not be picking them up for 500k...

Cloud cuckoo land if people think 4.5 million Duffy is going to be a backup player. Of course he's going to be one of the first names on the teamsheet. We just have to wait until he beds in

When he came to us there was much reference to him being outstanding in the air. Equal reference to his poor distribution. Seems to have been verified by his performance last night.
