You don't much care for Murphy then
I'm confused by him to be honest. He was a real goal threat (from the limited bits that I saw of him) at Sheffield Utd, and he's the type of player that I generally love. He looked really dangerous when he first arrived. The system we're playing shouldn't be a problem for him. But for whatever reason he just looked today like he wasn't at the races. I reckon that at his best he's got more to offer than Skalak so I hope he turns it around.

I prefer him to Skalak too, but neither are anywhere near Solly in his pomp. Murphy got six(?) last season. He's usually quite good in those situations he got in tonight. I thought he should have rolled it into the other corner, like De Bruyne did in the Manchester derby. De Bruyne, Murphy is not.

Stockdale: 7.5- Improved kicking and made a few strong catches towards the end when we were leading.

Bruno: 7.5- His usual self on the ball and much stronger in defence against a good player in Van la Para

Dunk: 9- Dominated throughout

Duffy: 8- Defensively untroubled, Solid in the air. Let's hope he builds on this performance.

Bong: 4.5- Not awful defensively but absolutely terrible in possession.

Kayal: 6.5- Solid throughout but perhaps not the standard we have become used to.

Stephens: 7- Much missed on Saturday and gave our midfield more edge.

Skalak: 5.5- offered little going forward. Didn't use his strength in set piece deliveries

Murphy: 6- Missed a great opportunity at the start of the game. Worked hard throughout.

Knockaert: 7.5- Poor decision making in the final third and lucky with the goal after a piece of comedy goal keeping. Class evident whilst running at defenders.

Hemed: 6- Worked hard. Didn't pose Huddersfield too much of a threat.

All subs: 6- did what was needed of them late on.

Brighton
Stockdale 7
Bruno 7
Duffy 7
Dunk 10 MOM - Not sure what more he could've done.
Bong 5
Kayal 7
Stephens 8
Skalak 6
Murphy 6
Knockaert 7
Hemed 7

Murray 6
Sidwell 6
Elvis N/A

Edit - After looking at other ratings, Bong's ones are a bit harsh. Think a 5 is about right, was quite solid defensively e.g. at one point, out pacing the winger to the ball. He worked hard but just couldn't pick out a pass at all.

Disagree I think that Kayal and Stephens dominated the middle of the park and with all the stupid marks and comments about Bong cant be bothered to mark anybody. Is Bong the new fall guy?

We all know Bong is a good left back but is in absolutely terrible form currently there is no denying it

Stockdale 6.5 did what was necessary, I suspect he will be glad to get through that one unscathed
Bruno 7- assured
Bong 3.5- no confidence and frankly... A liability tonight,
Dunk 7.5. Keeps getting better and better
Duffy 7 - my first real sight of him. Thought he did really well. As others have said I'm not sure he is better than Goldson though.
Stephens 7.5 very good performance. Typical Stephens, unflustered and efficient in everything he did.... Apart from that looping cross/ shot, whatever it was..
Kayal 6.5 one great shot in the first half.. A solid performance
Skalak 5 - I struggled with having him on the right wing... Just kept wanting it to be Knocky there
Murphy 4- really nondescript performance today. And that one on one...
Knockeart 6.5.- love his effort as much as his skill. Didn't really think the new position worked for him though.
Hemed 6. Some nice moments but not one of his stand out performances.

Murray 6.5. He gets into the right positions so often. I think he should be starting.
Sidwell 6 - nice to have his experience to come on and help run the game down
Manu 6. He is slowly becoming quite a useful option.

The crowd - 8.5. MOM. Considering some of the dross that was served up in the first half tonight, the crowd were superb tonight. Great noise and passion.
The warm up/ sit down/ jump around if you hate palace to GM was amusing too.

Afraid so.
It's a shame but some Albion fans always seem to need a fall guy and get on his back at every mistake which destroys his confidence and leads to more mistakes.
Still they pay their entry so I suppose they can justify their behaviour.

Couldn't make it last night but aspinall was saying bong started badly with poor passing, but played really well second half. Is that not the case ?

For me 1/5 first half 3/5 second.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
Stockdale - 6 - a clean sheet, and dealt with shots from the edge of the box straight at him - that can be the undoing of a keeper, amusingly, as we saw with Ward's feeble-hand gift - but didn't come for crosses that were his to take and needs to start dominating his six yard box. Hope his confidence will grow from the night though.

Bong - 4 - Yup that was a bit of a stinker. Good ball over the top in the second half and ran back with a pace he's been without for a while, but his form is dreadful. I feel for him and hope he gets back to his best, as he's a real asset when all is right.

Dunk - 8 - a storming performance from Dunk again. Great to see him carry on maturing into being that ball playing centre half that so many managers have seen him to be. It hasn't stopped yet either. Class.

Duffy - 7 - looked stronger and more decisive when necessary. Knew to lay the ball off to Dunk at every opportunity, but I hope he gets into the mood of being a slick monster and firing off long balls to feet when he fancies.

Bruno - 8 - I love seeing an old fashioned full body sliding tackle, and our permed-beard maestro did that in the second half. Got back to cover a blunder too, which shows he's on top of things and ready. Very happy for that to be so.

Kayal - 6 - cracking shot in the first half, and great to see him go at it after we scored, but not in top form or tempo at other times. We need that Dale and he combo to be in unforgiving mood.

Stephens - 6.5 - more in it than Beram, but his sideways passes aren't always the best decision. Very happy he's back in the team and up for it though.

Murphy - 5 - should have put that chance away, and not in the game for long spells, but had a hand in the winner, so not too bad.

Skalak - 5 - ran a fair bit, and maybe rolled around even more, but I wonder if his attacking worth when Knocky takes all the set pieces. The formation and use of 3 wingers/wide men seemed to me to make it so that they would would interchange, dragging their markers as they went, but that didn't really happen. If Knocky isn't a front man and Skalak isn't really a winger, then swapping them over here and there seems to be the wisest move.

Knockaert - 7 - after the goal, a cheeky wonder. Beforehand a frustrated number 10 who no one sought to find or go on pressuring sprints with. Flapped his hands in annoyance, and didn't know where to be in a front two for Hemed. The last 12 minutes though, brilliant.

Hemed - 6.5 - Baldock is the only player he has bonded with on the pitch, with is saddening. If he had an extra yard of pace his touches and twists on receipt of ball would have him as pure dynamite. Thought he put in a shift.

Some of the marks for Bong are ridiculous. Yes, his passing was terrible but he was solid defensively - certainly had the measure of their winger. Good at the back, poor going forward - I'd give him a 6

Also think Skalak is a bit under-rated here too. He gets bullied off the ball too easily but he seemed to be involved in every attack and has an eye for a good pass. He should take the dead balls because Knockaert was shocking at them last night.

Can't be bothered to mark them all but Dunk and Stephens were the standout players for me and Kayal was much better for having Dale alongside him

Stockdale 7 Did everything needed
Bong 4 Very poor. He is not fall guy but is just playing badly. Cant blame Murphy. Several times in first half he lost his marker but Bong found defender.
Dunk 8 Very good
Duffy 7 Good
Kayal 6 Average
Stevens 6 Average
Skalak 5 Def not a winger but where is his position
Hemed 6 Dont rate guy but better tonight. Odd that like when he set up Murphy shows some skill in midfield but never comfortable receiving ball in box. No pace
Knockhaert 6 Because of his entertainment value a player that can do no wrong. However was dreadfull in central role and suprised not put out wide earlier. First player since Ward that win lose or draw you talk about something he had done after
Murphy 6 I like his directness and first touch. One I would back on a one to one and some credit has to go to keeper. Can understand him shooting but Knockhaert was free to his left
Murray Not on long but does win more headers and holds ball up better then Hemed.
Elvis Not on long but his pace is much needed up front
Houghton Why did he take so long to decide Knockhaert should resort to wing.
