sadiq khan mate....read up on him ...he's a lovely man with lovely contacts.....

You just believe and regurgitate every single thing that the right-wing media write, don't you?
The exact same mistake that saw Goldsmith get TROUNCED.

No, a simple 1 strike and your out rule should do it.

I've always been dead against an away end, for the reason that Bozza gives. However, recent postings from Boro, Burnley, Palace and now Wed :lolol: fans, together with the sheer number of prats registering accounts atm has become something of an issue, imo. An away end with a "1 strike and you're relegated" policy could possibly work, but I wonder how easy it would be to achieve consistency about what constitutes a strike - both consistency between mods, and consistency over a season.

For example, "You lost to the better team" may be considered perfectly acceptable by mod A after a nothing game, but totally unacceptable to the same mod after a needle match, or indeed totally unacceptable by mod B after any game, irrespective of importance. Obviously, it's hard to achieve consistency between mods at the best of times - we're all different people doing what we hope is the right thing.

Bozza's suggestion of putting in place a manual moderation element for the first (few?) posts would hopefully weed out the most egregious cases of abuse, imo.

Brighton is the coolest most tolerant city in the country.

NSC is the coolest most tolerant football message board in the country.

At times things get a bit heated, but for the other 350+ days a year the LOLZ outweigh the DIN behaviour of a minority.

Obviously not the same one that I was thinking of. The Sadiq Khan I know denounced extremists and was told to increase his security after he supported same sex marriage.

He was labelled as an extremist sympathiser by Tories over his alleged association with one person..... who turns out is actually a Tory supporter

Just a thought, Bozza, maybe you could restrict new posters to replies only.
Make it so that they can't start new threads until they've posted a minimum number of posts ie 100.

It will, just don't let your opinion of the course of time be based upon the rantings of the right wing press.

I've not come across another fan message board that comes close to NSC's standard of excellent moderation. The rubbish generally gets filtered while proper debate / chat / discussion can thrive.

Maybe we've not been consistent enough - the viewpoint is taken on board.

I'll add that it was a difficult 24 hours or so immediately following the match, with a fair number of us in Boro or travelling back from Boro making it difficult to be as engaged in moderating as we may otherwise have been. In many instances, the most important action was to stop the abusive posting from being able to continue, and that was done. A tidy up was seen as secondary, and less urgent.

We don't do any shifts of any kind - all moderators work to best endeavours - pitching in when they can. It had been suggested to me a few weeks ago that we may be a bit light-handed, and this weekend may have highlighted that we are. I'll look to address that over the Summer.

For now, new user registration is turned off. When I re-activate it, all new users will have to have their opening posts manually moderated prior to the appearing on the board. This will offer a greater level of protection than I've felt has been necessary before.

My view is that the first clutch of new members posts should be checked before approval. Without them being told of this stipulation.

Normally they would make their intentions known straight away through what they write. They could be easily filtered out. It will solve the problem.

You could always create a small team of NSCers to carry out the task in support of the current 'Mods'.

This is the point. For every person who bemoans the moderation there are multiples more who are happier to be a part of the forum because of such interventions. This is my experience in the Facebook groups I run.

not sure how the "right wing press " can print some of the tripe that's attributed to him without being sued as it would seemingly amount to slander/libel....anyway as long as we've got our football , beer and porn we're all happy aren't we....???

Yep, that's an interesting addition to the idea...

There are a small number of members who adopt a stealth approach, pretending to be Albion fans and posting either innocuously or, more cleverly, ambiguously for a few posts before revealing their true nature. There's one chap I have my eye on who's made in excess of 100 posts without obviously revealing his allegiance, but I'm 99% sure it isn't the Albion. However, he's careful and amusing, so c'est la vie...

These people can't be caught unless and until they overstep the mark - but there's very few of them; most abusers/trollers simply don't have the patience &/or intelligence to avoid being caught almost immediately - your solution would catch them before they'd even made the first post on BB.

Afraid I'm in the "Man Up" camp too (pun intended)

There was plenty to get annoyed about on Saturday. Our first half performance, Mike Dean's performance, Middlesbrough's grim frozen micro climate, the shitty concourse (far too small, shite beer and tiny pork pies for £2 all designed to look like it had actually been built in 1975 to fit in with the rest of the town). Yes they gave it a couple of very loud homophobic songs but I seem to remember the whole away end replying with "Adam Johnson, he's one of your own". Then there was the walk back to the station with the two pissed teenagers walking up to the Riverside back past us staring everyone out with the OB two feet away (no prizes for guessing what would have happened had anyone taken them up on their offer). All this boiled my piss.

But words on a message board? Words written by teenagers with the literary ability of HB&B after a full lobotomy. Thread titles that make them obvious and said lobotomised teens alrady banned? Just ignore it FFS. You HAD to endure Middlebrough on Saturday if you were up there. No one's making you read a thread and, if it offends you that much you probably need to give your head a wobble,
