Since 2005, every team getting at least 87 points has been promoted from the top two.

Does that mean it's been a tough division to get out of this year? Only the impression one gets is it will only be harder next season..

Worth a thought, if we beat Derby and Burnley lose to qpr a d Boro lose at brum, we only need a point at boro, however.....

Boro would have to beat us, knowing that Burnley would be likely to beat Charlton and we would miss out!!!
This is my nightmare scenario, if Burnley do lose against Qpr then I hope Boro win at Brum but.... Boro play first, so I have to hope Brum turn them over oh ffs, my head hurts!

The fact is, and IMHO, it has been harder year on year to achieve promotion from the Championship particularly since we 'arrived' there in 2011.

Tend to agree, the overall trend seems to be and so has been proved this year.

On the basis of today's showing, on the final day BUMLEY will have to cope with the beach balls, balloons etc. and interruptions to the game, which frankl;y did not help our situation today.

Birmingham 0 Middlesbrough 1 ( 100th minute )

Albion 4 Derby reserves 0

Burnley 0 QPR 1 ( 101st minute )

Middlesbrough 0 Albion 0

Dyche explodes.

Can't see Burnley dropping another point with their matches to play against teams with nothing to play for. Just can't see that. So Burnley to win the league. I expect us to beat Derby at home thus setting up the winner takes all final day at Boro. Gulp.

Yep, that sounds about right.

Let's stick to hoping Middlesbrough drop points at Birmingham though, then we could either go above them, or even know that losing against Derby won't end our dream.

we could still lose in the play off's
The playoff's what?

Depressing, but losing in the playoffs is the most likely scenario.

Some people are getting way ahead of themselves on here
It is understandable after 5 wins in a row, including a 4-0 and 5-0. With 87 points we deserve to have been promoted already, we just picked the wrong bloody season to do well.

Unfortunately theres no scenario where you will not go into the game needing at least a draw at Boro. Additionally, theres no scenario where you can be out of it by then.
The next set of fixtures will determine whether a draw, win or high scoring win is required.
Exciting stuff

We're still up against it, but a draw against Derby and a win against Middlesbrough is enough. Better than needing to win both.

Good shout and supports the not generally favoured notion before last Tuesday that a draw at Turf Moor was best result; a draw and a win at Riverside would not then have been enough if Boro win next game. Always thought a point going begging in that game meant Boro are in mix, which increases our chances. Still think Burnley have a defeat in them but possibly Boro are the main target now.

No one said otherwise. But I'm glad we don't HAVE to win it.

Provided we win at Boro, I would sooner beat Derby and have points in the bag if either of the other 2 lose a game, although I can the logic of a draw and win at Boro. Either way the win at Boro is the must as things stand.

I prefer points in bag too....pressure is 1st on Boro, then dependent on that result we could have a little less pressure and then heap it on Burnley....their runs have to end soon ours has just started, maybe?

It's too early to tell. What if we beat Derby, and Middlesbrough beat Birmingham? Then we'd still need to beat Middlesbrough to go above them, so we'd rather Burnley had less points and had lost last week.

No it's not the logic of wanting a draw against Derby, of course we'd rather win. It was a simple point that it's nice we don't have to, as it's obvious that winning isn't easy.

I am talking about the situation you propose, that we draw against Derby. A draw last Tuesday was IMO a preferable result in that case after today's results. There will many what ifs if we don't make it, and, sure, there will be scenarios when a Boro win last week would have been better. My point is that there was a tacit assumption last week that Boro were up so we were scrapping with Burnley for 2nd. I was not sure that was the case, and would prefer to have two to shoot at right now. Personally would prefer to be third in 87,87,87 right now than second in 89,87,86. Might be proved wrong but looks more favourable option.

Well we don't have the greatest record vs top 6 teams so far this season....but this run could change that.....will have to add to that solitary win vs Hull if we are to progress...unless i've missed another..
