I thought the gate receipts were more evenly spread in cup matches anyway, unless I'm mistaken?

Indeed they are, but if EPL clubs want to scrap replays then lower league teams miss out on revcenue opportunities. So I'm saying that's fine, we can scrap replays but if you get drawn against an EPL or Championship club away and it's a draw at 90 mins then you get 50% of what would have been the replay receipts.

If you look at the national revenue from football and look at how much goes to the Top 6, the rest of the EPL and then come down to the last 20 teams it's staggering!

So one of the ways of making it more attractive to Premier League clubs is to take away replays and play the fixtures midweek! Come on FA, have you never heard of the 3rd Rd weekend? Yet again smaller clubs missing out on revenue to suit the very rich elite EPL clubs. Replays and Saturday fixtures is essential revenue outside of the EPL, please don't consider this option.

What would be the benefit of having it midweek? Is it because then bigger crowds will go to Saturday games in the league and the (now) lower gates for the FA Cup are moved midweek

Surely this could also cause issues with TV rights as my understanding was that you cannot show a domestic cup game on TV the same day as a CL or EL game? Could kill off the TV revenue to lower league clubs in the early rounds

That's because all the other clubs are more worried about the financial consequences of not staying in the prem. If there was a champions league spot for the winner then everyone would want to win it.

The riches of the one season in the Champions league is nothing compared to staying in the Premier League.

what about the Championship and League one sides that dont bother?

Precisely, there's no logic except the big boys see it as a hindrance and don't give a flying **** about lower leagues and grass roots football, in the same way they don't care about our national team, standing in UEFA or FIFA, and about national youth development.

I think the clue to all of this lies in the income of The FA and the income of the Premier League, The FA are now just the whipping boys!

But it's not only the Premier League clubs is it?

The FA cup needs a revamp - how many first teamers did Brighton play at Hull?

Brighton

The only reason lower league clubs want replays is the cash - not really the magic of the cup is it?

The Exeter chairman said he would rather draw with Liverpool than beat them.

What ever you do to the cup, it wont save it.

I don't disagree with you. The FA Cup was always about the giant killing, however, if the giants don't send out the first team you haven't got a killing, and the same is right at The Championship. The FA Cup was finished the season MUFC didn't enter. The only thing that can save it is money, there's not enough going into the FA to pay more and the Premier League are NEVER going to give up a League place for the FA Cup, why would they?

As I've already said it'll become "The League Cup Light", there's is no way of saving it.

Which leads you to conclude you either scrap it or make it an entry not compulsory competition.

The league cup is taken more seriously now I think, midweek - over by March.

Well it would be even more of an incentive for them wouldn't it? If we got to the quarter finals (yeah right) can you imagine how much we'd throw at it?

So, the BBC says that the poor national team is left tired. Poor dears. Really, all that running about. Young men today eh? A little less late night Xbox action methinks.

Personally, I'd rather protect the footballing traditions of this country than give a stuff what anyone else is doing. Do I want to win the World Cup? Yeah I wouldn't mind, but I can't be arsed to organise everything around that.

All season long the Premier teams strive for European places, but only the top four carry that eagerness into the actual competition. But the managers of all qualifying teams moan about too many games, then take their teams off to play nice little earner friendlies whenever they can.

Meanwhile, the teams not involved in Euro bun fights have the rug pulled out from under them to satisfy the "top" teams.

So scrap replays. Why not go the whole hog and scrap competitions other than the Premier league?

There are other solutions of course, including scrapping over subscribed Euro games, and returning to a European Cup with just league winners, and the Cup Winners cup ( which would immediately boost the FA Cup) and get rid of " International Weeks" , a modern construct which immediately causes congestion. If you've got players in Internationals, play some of your other players.

Perhaps second replays, third and fourth replays can make a comeback instead of constantly pandering to half a dozen clubs out of 92.

I'd bring back 2nd and 3rd replays, why degrade the competition?

Oh good, yet another chance to let the Premier League assert itself over everyone else.

My only wish is that when things like this are proposed they'd stop using the national team as a selling point/reason. We all know it has sod all to do with any decision made and that the PL would, in an ideal world, scrap international games completely.

Roll on the inevitable EuroLeague. At least that would get the 'big howevermany' and their persistent sodding whining out of the way.

Who remembers WHU v Stoke, the League Cup replays, that great WHU away strip and Bobby Moore saving a penalty!

Steve Bruce having a GRIZZLE yesterday...

"It's ridiculous the number of games we have got coming up," said Bruce. "Why can't we just go to penalties? Why do we have to have a replay?"
Bruce, whose side currently top the Championship, believes it is also unfair on fans, adding: "Supporters have to find the money to support their team."

Oh put a sock in it Bruce, you flaccid old woman. Supporters don't HAVE to find the money to support their team, nobody is FROGMARCHED to the ticket office are they. Really gets on my tits when managers come out with this old crap. Play a full first team and maybe you wouldn't have needed a replay in the first place.
