Left out some difficult choices - Pink Floyd (only one decent album from the 1980's), Half Man Half Biscuit (the best of their career lay ahead of them by the end of the 1980's) and Marillion (chose Genesis instead :) ).

edit: subbed oiut Madness for Elvis Costello :)

edit 2: and (how did i forget?) Pet Shop Boys for Squeeze.

Pink Floyd were horribly cheesy in the 80s.

Great decade for the UK. Pisses all over the 90s from a great height.

Baby Animals are from Oz as well, plus they didn't release their 1st album until '91

noted, you are permitted to choose 7 for spotting a cheater

No need to really, with this demographic it'll be between The Specials, The Jam or The Clash (and rightly so IMHO), all of which were formed in the late '70's - maybe your criteria should of specified formation in The Eighties.

Anyway, I'm a market-maker by profession , so I'll price it up for the punters ;

7/4 The Specials
2/1 The Jam
9/2 The Clash
10/1 New Order
12/1 Madness
14/1 The Cure
16/1 The Smiths
33/1 Stone Roses
40/1 Style Council
50/1 The Stranglers
50/1 UB40
66/1 Elvis Costello & The Attractions
80/1 Human League

100/1 Bar
