Until the country is split Sunni and Shia there will never be peace there. They hate each other and have done since the dawn of time. The US can slow down ISIS and probably stop them taking Bagdad but that is about it. Keep out of it and let them get on it, but of course we cannot because we depend upon their oil.

Bet the US have another meddle tho, despite the UK no longer having the stomach for it.

interesting that you think that when the currnet President has consistantly stayed away and avoided intervention (at least overt). though it'll be tough one to swallow just as you leave. tricky one to judge, but i reckon untill another nation asks for help, they'll stay out of it.

Not supposed to be a power vacuum tho is it? The wobbly government installed to allow the UK/US forces to do a runner as soon as Western casualties became politically unacceptable was supposed to have the willpower and the manpower to rule the country when the West pulled out. Was never going to be the case. ISIS will be running the country before the month is out and the whole Iraqi army will have run away. What a complete and utter waste of British lives.

Sadly this isn't even a result of hindsight.

Interesting protest outside the stadium in Sao Paulo tonight, looks like they were firing ball bearings at the room where Chiles and co were debating the match.

Civil war, human rights abuses, rife homophobia and women treated as second class citizens along with religious extremism and a thinly veiled hatred of westerners - thats the middle east in a nutshell. What they really need to sort everything out and unite them is the worlds most corrupt football tournament surely? I reckon FIFA should open the bidding and see which one of the oil rich gulf states is willing to offer the biggest bribes to secure the rights to host the World Cup. I know the middle east is largely just vast expanses of barely populated rock and sand with no footballing history and littered with the corpses of dead migrant workers but this shouldnt put us off holding the world cup there surely?

Nah, it'll never happen. Nobody could be that stupid.
