Its a figurative timeslot to allow released players to be paid over a period from the end of the season ( May) when they may be hunting for other clubs,.... yes?

Oscar was the wrong man to employ last season. He is probably a very good coach and given the resources/talent could get a team playing a Barcelona style system.
Unfortunately for him he inherited a situation where the squad was pretty much decided when he joined with little left in the budget to add to it. January came, we sold three first team players and only signed one proper first team replacement (Stephens). He was not able to bring in players even thow we had received transfer fees and wages would have been freed up within the squad budget. This effectively castrated Oscar and he could see it would be impossible to play the way he wanted and be successful with the hand he was being dealt.
He has one way of playing and only one, what we needed was someone who would adapt our tactics to the players available not try and fit what we had into a system they wanted but did not have the right players for. This was Oscars failing but tbf he somehow managed to scrape us into 6th.
Surely the board did their homework on Garcia? Did they tell him yes we want to play like that and yes here is the resources to make it happen?
I hope the board have learnt from last season, hopefully whoever comes in will do so quickly and be able to shape the squad and bring in the players they want and players who want to play for the manager (of course within budget).
If the powers that be do the same as last summer we could be all here again or in January having the same discussion.
Let the manager have total control of transfers working with the scouting team and let them decide who is retained or not. Players play for the manager and money the club is secondary in most cases. Football is not like a business and we need to stop running on field matters as such (of course within an agreed budget, but by the manager).

I suspect they were swung by the potential for Spanish youngsters from youth and B teams, on the cheap,..... obviously this didnt materialise for whatever reason.

Yes, they do,... I added them just to illustrate the potential size of the rebuilding task if all or a lot of them ended up getting moved on.

I think it's usual practise to tell players as soon as the season is over.
If you are releasing them, it gives them as long as possible to find a new employer for next season.
If you are offering them a new deal, it gives us a bit of time to negotiate a deal they will be happy to sign. If we left it to mid-June, I would imagine players we want to keep would have got itchy feet by then and would have their agent already lining up an alternative. Leaving them in limbo for a month or more, after the season ends won't endear the club to them at all.

Indeed... especially as 6 or 7 of those have been in our starting line-up most weeks, and several more in the active first team squad.
