So perhaps Barnesy was not so bad after all…

I have no doubts whatsoever that we would now be comfortably in a play-off place if Ashley Barnes was still at the club. He would have buried that penalty for a start. Still, the fans got what they wanted and forced him out of the club – congratulations!

Hope to see him come back to the Amex and scoring against us (as long as we win 2-1!).

Completely disagree. You must have been watching some other guy. Very much a 1st division Striker. A try hard with very little talent!!!

We had a hypothetical conversation in the pub Sunday along the lines of, if Murray and Barnes were still our strike force this season, I personally think we could be up where Burnley are in the league. All completely irrelevant I know, but......

And we could have spent the money we blew on CMS and Ulloa on other parts of the team. I have no doubt that those two would have been more effective than any of the combinations we have tried since Poyet cocked up big time letting Murray go. Hindsight is a great thing, although I have never been more gutted to see an Albion player leave than I was when Murray left, that includes BZ and Wardy as well as Lawrenson.

The Barnes Boo Boys are a load of lobbos but they had no influence whatsoever on the club's decision not to retain Barnes.

They may well have had some influence on Barnes not wanting to stay. Damned if I'd work my butt off for a team whose supporters were typically on my case for virtually every game.

I was gutted when we sold him. Gutted. He's going to do very well for himself indeed and prove himself to be a top half Championship striker.

There are some utter morons in Albion's support.

Reading some of the bile in here in the past 48 hours I have to agree with your last sentence. A crying shame but sadly true.

Deluded.

We need goalscorers.

We do NOT miss Ashley Barnes' lack of goals. We do miss Andrew Croft's goals from Midfield however..... along with that other striker that is never available.

We'll find out how good he is now at Burnley Voks & Ings both out for now for a while, they'll probably be playing Barnes as a lone striker

He probably will get to play alongside the player of the Championship Ings very soon. Surely he's going to get bagfuls?

I believe he will be in league 1 or 2 within two seasons myself. He will find his level.

Bang on. Barnes was/is a top class Championship striker. All the BHAFC Barnes haters - you do not have a clue!

We have very differing opinions. You say I don't have a clue. Personally, I believe only time will tell.

History is repeating itself on Burnley forams already. Some say he can't trap a bag of cement and the next poster will claim he was man of the match!

Barnes 208 career games 52 goals , Ulloa. 260 games 102 goals. As I said division one striker, trys hard but not championship quality!

Barnes spent most of his time in the Championship playing on the left. Very respectable stats indeed. Not the one you'd want as a main man but it'll be interesting to see how much it costs to sign a player who can do such a good all round job to an equivalent standard. Can understand why they let him go - especially if wages drop in the summer and others become affordable - but it was always a gamble.

We certainly do miss his influence already, not just for chipping in with goals but also because Ulloa now has nobody at all pushing for his place or able to give him a rest.

As far as I can see Ulloa has scored 19 goals in 42 games he's doing ok I think!

Quite how you turned a defence of Barnes into a criticism of Ulloa defeats me. He's done a great job but every player benefits from knowing their place is not guaranteed and the occasional chance to save their legs when a match is won. Not to mention what happens when Ulloa is ill or injured.

You are saying Barnes would pressure Ulloa for his place. This to me is very much a criticism of Ulloa. You need someone with similar qualities and scoring ability to do what you suggest, not Barnes.

Barnes was fairly average and to suggest our problems are due to him leaving is just stupid.
Remember he choose to leave for a bigger pay packet and the club had to cash in before he left for free (as has been pointed out many times on these pages) like the majority of fans was none to bothered if he stayed or not, what IS the problem is the fact that the club has trouble in attracting new players on the wages we can afford and numbnuts absolute refusal to play attacking football.
