Without digging into my Albion history book I believe he was manager for some 40 years before and after WWII. IIRC he took his life after the horrors of what he saw during the conflict.
I believe his name currently adorns the Brighton and Hove bus which is painted in a blue and white livery, and used for match day park and ride.
