DailyMail: Cause of Death - Cannabis

A trap I fell into! I don't think anyone here is really talking about allergic reactions and I don't believe the implication of the post about dying from an two paracetamol was about an allergic reaction but about toxicity of a drug.

The comments of some of those on here whom I presume are regular users seems to reflect the attitude of smokers in years in the 60s/70s and 80s. I smoke and I'm not dead ergo smoking doesn't cause cancer. The same sort of attitude they had to passive smoking and the denial, for selfish reasons, that it never could cause others problems.

Dont think anybody has said...im not dead, so it doesnt cause cancer...this woman didnt die from cancer....
The fact that there have been TWO recorded alleged deaths from cannabis toxicity out of tens of millions of everyday users shows what a rare event this is.
It sort of shows that it is not particularly harmful compared to other substances.

Correct...im not dead, and neither are Tens of MILLIONS of others.......the fact this is headline news shows how RARE this condition is.

Nope, they reflect the relative harm of a number of illegal drugs compared to alcohol and cigarettes as shown by Professor Nutt.

Good graph, this shows the "harm" of certain substances, and yet Heroin is not toxic at all. The Harm comes from the addiction, the way it is used and the crimes committed to feed the need. A Heroin overdose does not poison you, it just relaxes you to the point where you stop breathing.

If you could factor in other pass times, I wonder where on the graph Football would be. I am sure far more people have died because of football in the last 30 years than Cannabis has killed in a thousand years.

This one, which includes "economic harm" also includes the drug classes, though it is slightly out of date.

I suppose if it was in the guardian it would have credibility?

Sure I jumped the gun but let's be honest, the Daily Mail aren't exactly renound for their well informed and balanced journalism.

Since cannabis was legalised in Colorado, the state has raised $1.24m of tax in a month, which it will spend on public services. It is estimated that it will raise $100m in tax a year.

Yet the mugs that we are in this country are still spending millions fighting it, providing criminals with a tax free income selling an essentially harmless plant.

But the mugs in this country (USA) are still spending millions fighting this harmless plant. Recreational marjiuana may be legal in Washington and Colorado but, on a federal level, it is still illegal in every state in the union. Will be interesting to see how federal law is affected by the success of the 'experiments' in CO and WA.

You can just hear a paedophile using the same defence!!

Wow. Just wow. Your first analogy of someone doubting the dangers of smoking tobacco because they fortunetly have not as yet had cancer with my initial point of the truth of cannabis toxicity and the documented deaths of it were stupid enough but now you compare a paedophiles defence to that of someone who thinks it odd to go after a largely harmless herb is just unbelievable.

Which of the wise monkeys are you?

The one who types.... and the one who has come to the conclusion that you are incapable of anything approaching debate hence me not wasting my time and simply hurling abuse at you for which I do not feel bad. Congratulations on a few posts consisting of more than one sentence though. I will admit, I was quite impressed by that.

Come back. Please explain why you describe cannabis as a harmless plant? If you set fire to anything and breath in the fumes it will cause you harm.

Pathetic. You have no idea and no argument.

Doug when have you ever strung more than 2 sentences together in the form of a coherent argument ?

On second thoughts . . .don't .....please don't.

See above. People that are addicted to anything in life will never accept that they are harming themselves. That's why Alc Anon always started by getting people to admit they were alcoholics. People in this thread insist that weed is harmless when the consensus of opinions shows that it can't be. I've seen it ruin lives and break up families. Some have said that this report is flawed just because of what paper reported it, another alluded that he knew better than a coroner. It's obvious from the responses on here who takes drugs by the way that they lash out and deny the harm they cause. Just because I choose to wind people up on here doesn't mean that I know nothing.

" The post mortem could find no natural cause for her death with the balance of probability that it is more likely than not that she died from the effects of cannabis"

There is no back up to that explanation in the newspaper report as to the actual cause of death....... As in heart failure brought on by cannabis toxicity or anything like that. If you have a heart attack there is evidence....... This is wafer thin flimsy. The coroner has acted on the explanation given by a doctor. I bet there are thousands of doctors out there who would not have come to the same conclusions drawn on that evidence. The death of some adults are unexplained in the same way as sudden infant death syndrome. Unless there are accepted levels in cannabis toxicity charts that have been previously documented that would result in a persons death then I reckon there has been a degree of straw clutching here. For the record Doug I do not think that drink or any recreational drug that I know of can be good for you in the long run. Nor are cream cakes taken on a regular basis either.
Weed rarely causes the break up of families unless there are other factors like the person who smokes it is generally a c.unt or their parents are Ignorant Daily Mail readers and totally overreact to it all.
