1901ers can wear colours/replica shirts in their seats, but not the lounges.

So, you can wear footy shirts in the seats but not the lounge. How absurd.

What a load of tinpot modern claptrap. So I'm supposed to go to a match and get involved in costume changes 4 times over the course of a game. Embarrassing from the club IMO, either we can wear colours or we can't. Who on earth dreamt this potential charade up?

Personally I struggle to understand what threat football colours are in the lounges ? It smacks of the "you must wear a tie to a meeting" brigade which is thankfully dying out.

It would appear to be a rule for rules sake.

Yep, that's the size of it. To me, it seems a great move (if move it is). I like wearing colours, but knew that I couldn't if I took a 1901 seat. I took one anyway for the reasons I've previously said, but now I can wear colours while watching the game I'm a happy bunny.

Whatever - it affects only a few people and amongst such a large and diverse community there are bound to be profound disagreements!

Absurd ... one assumes that 1901 are mostly respectable, adult and are making a nice financial contribution to the club that they support. Yet they can't wear a shirt that the club are trying to sell through it's various outlets to make it more money and to demonstrate the support of the club.

It's totally ridiculous in my mind, regardless of what is done elsewhere. It's OK for me to buy a 1st class ticket on BA to NY and wear my BHA shirt with the snooty set but not in a lounge at a football game??

But they sold 3000 tickets with precisely those rules, so 3000 folk were happy enough. If people who were in the market for those seats agreed with your perspective they wouldn't have signed up. Horses for courses, shirley?

You're three years late with this thread!

Lots of establishments have a dress code - this is no different to nightclubs who only let you in wearing shoes. I choose not to go in them because they are guaranteed to be full of tossers.

You think that the 3000 people who bought 1901 tickets agreed with the dress code? They bought those seats because they were the best ones, and after years of watching football in inadequate circumstances, they treated themselves. Deservedly so.

Ludicrous to suggest that they'd cut off their nose to spite their face over this. I suspect that a large percentage thought the rule stupid, but not a deal-breaker.

The change involves putting a replica shirt over your existing clothing and then taking it off again (twice). Doesn't seem too much of a hardship to me. I do understand that many will think it's ridiculous, but it's fine by me.

You either wear a football shirt or you don't, wearing "over" other clothing is a bit naff, its a shirt not a jumper. It would look silly.

I'd happily go in 1901, but choose not to because of the price, not the dress code. The dress code wouldn't affect me, I don't wear colours.

But corporate or not, it's a football match. I can't get my head around the idea that you can't dress as you choose. A lot of 1901ers aren't there as part of this corporate-business-networking thing. They're there because after years of hurt, these are the best possible seats and facilities, and they can afford it.

I'm not remotely bothered about it - it just seems really odd.

Precisely this.

Exactly my position. I disagreed with the rule, but bought a seat regardless because the benefits outweighed the disadvantage. Now, the rule has been relaxed (at least to my understanding of the previous rule). So, a result!

Then I'm naff! If it's cold (as it mostly is), I always wear my shirt over a jumper, and under a (open) jacket too.

I've never undestood why people get so animated about this. It's completely unsuitable clothing anyway.

Sports clothes and jeans are a terrible look, why not wear a nice shirt or a nice knitted jumper? You'll be warmer and look more stylish, it's a win win situation surely

I go in 1901 a few times a season. Can be a bit sterile to be honest. Given most people in there do not appear to be 'corporate' types, perhaps there is an argument for allowing in certain lounges for next season? I am not sure the dress code is followed anyway, I see lots in jeans and trainers.

I don't wear football shirts. But I am also an adult, and don't think that anybody has the right to tell me what I can or can't wear.

Yep, it can be sterile. I get my pwopa footie fix at away games, and quite like the comfort that 1901 at the AMEX provides. I'd have to agree that making 1901 less sterile would be a good idea, and your suggestion is quite a good one. Perhaps keep the Platinum lounges as is, to provide a proper corporate venue for those that want that and make the Gold lounges (or half of them?) a bit less sterile? Just a thought.

Jeans are acceptable attire according to the 'rules', trainers are not. That said, yes you are right, they fail to enforce the dress code these days so it seems pointless to stop members wearing replica shirts. Personally, when we signed up, I accepted the dress code, and don't imagine I'll be wearing a replica shirt in there anyway. As for trainers, I never wear trainers unless engaging in sporting activity. As has been said, it's not unusual to have a dress code in places like this, other football clubs require you to wear a suit, shirt and tie, and even 'ban' jeans in their premium/corporate areas.

Following receipt of an email from the club yesterday asking us all to make the AMEX blue and white for the Donny game, I emailed PB asking if 1901ers could wear replica shirts at the Donny game. He replied, copying in Paul Rogers and Simon Williams, saying that he has no problem with us wearing colours/replica shirts in our seats at ALL games, providing people understood that they could NEVER wear them in the lounges. Paul Rogers concurred in his response to the email thread. Both of them know I'm making this post.

I'm making this post because my understanding was that replica shirts could never been worn anywhere in a 1901 area, including in your seat; and, judging by my friends' attitude and having never seen replica shirts in the 1901 seating, it seems that most 1901ers also think that they can't wear colours. If this is just news to me, apologies for the post....

BTW, this conversation took place between midnight and 01:15 last night. Totally amazing customer response - I've never had replies to emails at that time on a Saturday night from any other organisation in my entire life!

Yes, they do email late at night and that is excellent.

I do think that they should be emailing all 1901 members officially to explain these things though rather than just letting it be known to you and then you posting it on here IMO.

It would also be nice to hear why the colours cannot be shown in the lounge as changing your top regularly, HT, end of game etc is not going to be easy if, say 1000 people all do it!

Whilst on the subject, why can't trainers be worn at the seats or in the lounge? My friend says that he saw a couple of young lads in tshirt and trainers in the lounge 2 games running now but the official policy is supposed to be a collar and shoes! Needs to be sorted really.

In this miserable weather, it is not nice to wear smart work shoes me thinks.

How many of them want to wear replica shirts? Of those that might, how many would put wearing a replica shirt ahead of the other reasons they wanted to buy that seat? I don't really buy your argument

The reason they let me know is that it was a direct reply to an email I sent seeking clarification. In fairness to PB, he seemed to think that he was just clarifying the existing rules and not changing them, at least in his first response to me. I posted on here simply because I thought it was a change in the rules, though at least one poster has said that he thought it wasn't a change.

I agree that enforcement of the dress code rules is somewhat erratic. I also agree that now would be a good time to review the rules, re-communicate them formally to all 1901ers and then enforce those rules consistently.
