2 rumours yesterday not sure if any truth in either of them:
1, Barnes was only on £1800 per week and wanted £5000 increase to bring him in line with most team mates.
2. Offered 2 year contract he wanted 3

Sounds like a rehash of the rumours about Murray , if there was any substance to them and I was Ashley Barnes I would be pretty pissed off being on League 1 wages whilst playing 2 and a half seasons in The Championship.

I can only assume that we signed him on what was at the time a good contract for him from Plymouth and obviously times have changed.

Does it really matter we got £750k for a player who we would of had to let go for nothing at the end of the season. The only people who know why he would not sign a new contract are those close to him and the club itself, and they will not make the reasons why public.

Interesting comments from Barnes on BBC Sport, reading between the lines we didn't try too hard to keep him IMO

"The gaffer stuck by me, I was the target he wanted and I am here. You want to be somewhere where someone wants you.

I hope we don't regret selling him.

I don't think we valued him THAT highly and Burnley were after him in the summer so its a fair comment really. Just hope he doesn't do a Murray.

I can't imagine Barnes would give a barbed comment to the club whom made him the player he is.

Usual stuff. Praise the former club and their fans. Praise the fans of the new club. Speak highly of the new gaffer.

Also says he's happy to sit on the bench.

Since when?

Just watched his first interview on their Player. Barnes said the move has been 'on the cards since the summer'. He also said that he wants to be in The Prem and sees Burnley as his way there. He kept saying that he needed a new chapter in his life throughout the video. I got the impression that he just wanted to leave The Albion-out of loyalty to Poyet maybe? Pure guesswork on my part but it looks like he was never going to sign a new contract with us and Burnley was where he wanted to be for months. Burnley though Ashley? Have you lost your marbles? Or maybe we aren't the attraction we like to think we are?

Correct me if Im wrong here but moving from a club in 7th place(at the time) to a club lying second with recent premier experiance is a step up. How he gets on from now is anyones guess but if he starts banging them in week in and week out ala Murrey certain wankers on here will have some questions to answer imo.

We don't score enough goals, our defence is superb but they are being let down by the strikers not scoring hence our interest in a couple of new forwards.

He said that the move 'has been on the cards since the summer'. He clearly wanted to go there and has his wish. Moving to a club currently in 2nd place would appear to be a step up but their ramshackle ground and catchment area suggests their stay in the PL, if it happens, is unlikely to be long term. We may not make it this year but when we do I hope our ambition extends beyond one season there every 2 or 3 years.

Saw this earlier too.

I'm sure it's just about money. He won't even make their 25 man squad if they are promoted, and burnley know they can loan him out to the champ with a team paying 80% of his wages.

Barnes won't care if he's on like £6k a week. That's about 180k net. Not bad, and can save £100k a year no problem.
