Paul Barber writes a rather magnificent letter to the FL re: Player's failings

I just don't understand how the football league can sign up to something on behalf of all football clubs.

It's a good question actually, linked I believe to the OnDigital debacle. Something I hope the League are finally questioning.

It's a mess and something they have ignored for years.

Ripped off and let down. The Football League owe the clubs and the fans a massive apology. It smacks of arrogance and incompetence we are still talking about these problems.

I worry on the basis of past and recent performance they are able to fix it. A start would be to rip up the current contracts and start again.

In the interim, there is an easy solution. Simply allow the local radio to broadcast the commentary over the internet until such point as the myriad of suppliers the Football League employ can get their act together.

Got this message from 'Guru'

Hi Mac,

Thank you for your email.

The commentary during yesterday’s match was dropped because of the ISDN line was being changed at the time. We can confirm that this issue has been fixed.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I'd wish I'd posted some correspondence from them in the past. It's been hilarious.

I cancelled yesterday but they couldn't find my account. It was actually out of subscription since my year free apology had run out. After they finally found it, I cheekily replied "Not even a sorry, sad to see me go ?". They replied they were sorry I had cancelled.

There was a time you could ring them. They quite obviously now couldn't give a toss. I wonder whether the the sites being operated by someone else, they'd be glad to be out of it too.

Come on FL do the right thing and agree everyone goes their separate ways.

What is this "dialling in" that keeps getting mentioned?

Sounds a bit anachronistic.

Would be so good if they sorted out their own website rather than the shitty template. I HATE (amongst other things) having to click through to the main page every time from the bollocks that pops up first. What other website do you have to do that for?

Nope, been lying on the floor all day thanks to my crocked back :( Do I know you? Oh Ffs quoted the wrong person now!

He came SO close to writing a whole email without mentioning FFP!

(I think Barber's doing a good job before I get labelled a Barber Basher).

I cancelled my subscription at the end of last season. However, the commentary does work on the app still, as do highlights and videos, so I seem to still be getting the service, without paying for it.

Perhaps a chance I won't cancel yet then. Would be so sorry to have to after years of listening (when can't make Saturday matches because work until 14:30 then have to travel home), but it's beyond a joke lately.

Good to see PB taking the feedback and running with it........ chances somebody at 'player' has half as much common sense and actually acts?

Nice letter.

Do other clubs have this problem? If so surely its only a matter of time before we all link up and tell Perform and the Football League where to stick the deal (and the templated website to boot) and each club goes there own way and earns their own cash.

I was wondering this too. I also wonder why other clubs have better highlights packages. What's that all aboot?

Anyway, good letter PB. Much appreciated.

I've come back home.
Could some clever person run me through how the broadcast works?

I am guessing the BBC have a box or laptop that has an app a bit like Skype they put in a number in that goes to a server at perform which we then log in to and listen. Is this about it and where does the issue lie?

Cheers.

Ps nice one barber.

Just watch the 'extended' highlights of Saturday's game. The HQ option is a bit like viewing a game through a fish bowl. I've watched far far better streams.

It is unusual these days to be able to cancel a service and not be asked to provide any feedback as to the reason for cancellation. Still I guess they "understand" their customers.
