Yeah, I thought so, but Justice seems to think he has the skill to outwit the wheel.

I can understand there is a skill to increase your chances of winning at poker, or if you have inside info of who our new manager was going to be. But roulette is just an evening out at the casino for people who can’t play anything else.
So just because you don't understand something you think it cant be done?

I'm not sure he has made money from poker playing, he plays it and he's good but I suspect his success of 10 years ago has been wiped out.

Fact is poker is a game of great skill with a significant element of good luck thrown in. But, the best players are the best players not because of luck. Roulette and other casino games are just about luck with a minuscule element of skill.

Anyone that says they win at Roulette is either kidding themselves or has played once or twice and got lucky
Many years ago I was taught by a pro roulette player so I have to disagree.

So what is the way to beat the house on Roulette. (Genuinely interested as I also believe that unlike a lot of card games, there is no formula for roulette).

No such thing. There are pro poker players and pro card counters who can turn blackjack odds in their favour. If you believe that you can turn Roulette in your favour then you're a massive fool.

Is that because all tickets are 14m/1?

In a way but as less than half of the lottery money collected goes toward prizes it stands to reason that the more tickets sold, the chance of each ticket winning is reduced. But on any gambling your chances of winning can always be increased by studying the probabilities. A successful gambler doesn't pick a race then pick a horse, he studies which horse has the best chance of giving a return in all of the races.
Check out probability axioms.

Think of areas rather than specific numbers, always go with the dealer, stay away from fast wheels don't bet until the dealer has spun at least 10 numbers I prefer 20 to see if a pattern has formed never play in the evening or on crowded tables. I also know many patterns they don't always work but work more often than you would think for example if the ball is spun anti clockwise from the previous number 21 a good bet will be 12 or the three numbers either side of 12. I have played for many years more often than not I make 300 quid a session playing with low stakes.

I'll bet that most gamblers think that their losses equal out their wins. When the figure has to be nearer 10% or there wouldn't be so many gambling businesses.

I played poker and was addicted. I lost thousands last year playing sky poker. I still play every day via freeroll as I've got 9,580 pts so only cost 10, 25, 75 pts to enter these competitions and the first 10 placed seats enter the £2,000 or £5,000 bounty hunter so then I have a chance of winning cash.

I have to say that seems remarkably simple as all the other systems i have heard of use quite complex counting and calculating of probabilities (normally needing electronic aids) and incremental betting.

Sorry but you are deluding yourself. You simply cannot argue the statistical probability and suggesting the likelihood of winning depends on how many people are at a table or hitting a number depends on which way the ball is spun is absurd in the extreme.

Will leave this conversation here I think!

I totally get sports gambling and poker, where there's an obvious edge that can be gained if you're good enough.

Casino games are little better than FOTB's (card counting excepted). I've played poker professionally too and seen a lot of big winners go and lose everything they win on the roulette, craps or blackjack tables.

Anyone who says they are a consistent winner at a game of luck where the statistical reality says it's impossible is likely just trying to justify why they do it

I'm not bothered if you believe me or not to be honest all I know is that its my game of choice and I win playing it.

This sounds more like a set of superstitions.

Well good luck to you. But don't come on to thread started by a naive bloke who's admitting a gambling problem and say that a game of chance can be beaten. You're kidding yourself - as was the bloke who told you - if you think you can predict the numbers where there are so many random variables involved, most notably the human aspect side of things.

Areas on a Roulette Table is a CLASSIC way to fool yourself. If you bet on three numbers either side of a number, you're betting on 7 numbers. It can only hit one. Even if it does land in your area, your margin of victory is massively sliced and THAT is how the table reclaims the spoils. If it works for you Justice, then good luck to you.

But it's easy to get in trouble with Roulette. Especially in a bookies.

First of all good luck to the OP.

Before moving into banking I spent 10 years working in various casinos in the UK and abroad. Here are some of my thoughts:

People that claim to be a professional gamblers normally have a good sized bankroll behind them and are very disciplined. Only ever spending roughly 1% of their total bankroll in an evening.

When I was working back in Brighton 6 years or so ago we had a punter that would bet pretty much the table limit (big mistake to start) on red or black. He was a nice guy but you knew when he was on a bad run of luck because all of his gold rings would be in the pawn shop so he could gamble. Anyway one night he was doing his money (30K) and had had one too many drinks. The manager on duty wanted him to call it a night. However said punter wasn't in the best state. He wanted to carry on gambling to try and get his money back. So a few phone calls where made to his bank and the GM of the casino and voilà he had another 15k in front of him. He did his bolloxs. The casino had a social responsibility towards this guy and completely failed him. We saw this guy a few more times over the coming months but never playing at those stakes and always sober. Then a few days after Xmas that year we were told that this guy had committed suicide on Xmas day and left behind his wife and teenage son.

As for the geezer that claims he makes 300 quid every time he plays roulette, you're speaking out of your a#*e.

The trouble is these days gambling is thrown at you from every direction, internet gambling, smartphone gambling, shops all over the place, adverts on TV and in the papers and in bygone days these were either banned, heavily regulated or simply didn't exist.

I still remember going into a bookies and having to have a 5 team acca on the football and that was the only bet if the game wasn't on TV.

I can understand now how so many people become addicted and it is a very easy situation to slide into and a very difficult one to get out of.
i agree with this in so many ways and so do friends at GA. Thank you everyone for your nice words of support. So far no gambling to report, I have a full months pay packet next week, my first proper on in two years and this thread has also reintroduced me to a really old good friend.

If I'm not mistaken this is now Day 35. Once again thank you all especially the ones who are not compulsive gamblers yourselves. I know how difficult it can be to understand.

How would you know that if you have only ever had two bets in your life?. My skills at the roulette table have paid many a bill over the years, myself and family have also enjoyed plenty of Albion matches thanks to the casino. If you keep in control and actually bother to learn what to look for etc you can make some good money, of course I lose from time to time but at this moment in time overall still in profit.

If it works for you than good luck to you but my own experiences and many people I met I've encountered otherwise. You lose in the long run. I'm addicted to the GG's, I've made money on certain trainers. Said I would never gamble on slots again because I know it's rubbish. After winning lucky before I came out to you all I went on them. I use to always say to others they're rubbish! Once you're fixated in gambling again you forget everything because you just need your fix.
