I was sitting two seats along from the young lad in the Albion shirt, and his dad, in this Argus photo.

Appalling behaviour from the Albion supporters who were baiting the Ipswich stewards throughout the game. Spoilt the day for us.

I agree with this. I was sitting fairly close to the incident, and the Brighton fans did totally over react to what was pretty modest homophobic stuff from a very small handful of Ipswich. Yes it could have been dealt with quicker by Ipswich stewards but that really do call for what followed by a few of our fans.

Its now reached the stage that a few our our fans are now using homophobic chants as the excuse they need to kick off - I would bet my season ticket that none of those who ended up fighting stewards in the exit are in anyway bothered about what the home fans were or were not singing.

My brother was at the game. He’s an Ipswich fan. He said that Albion fans started the trouble with the “sheep-shagger” chant. Is that true?

Probably another Craig Bellemy moment when "sea sea seasiders was sung" although "does your tractor know you're here" did get chanted late on

Correct. "seasiders" was misheard as sheepshaggers. Though there was a modest smattering of "inbreds" being chanted as well. All thoroughly tiresome and idiotic from both sides.

One of those lovely chaps in the photo was so off his head that he spent most of the first half asleep. During half time he tried to make his way to the concourse but could not keep his balance so he made his way down the stairs step by step on his arse. My 8 year old found it hilarious. Scary stuff.

The problem was that the stewards were doing nothing to stop the home fans in the first place and took far too long to eject the ones causing thetrouble. This meant Albion fans were getting more and more annoyed. Things seemed to escalate from there.

The stewards were ineffective and that is being polite.

No, the problem was a number of Brighton fans wanting a fight and actively looking for it. Those people in the picture had come over from another part of the stand to get involved. They were not interested in anything other than a scrap with stewards, and they made it happen.

The stewards were put in a disgusting position. These are people doing a low paid job for the benefit of getting a game on. Our fans abused them physically and I don't like that. At all. But there is that element to our support, as there is with all other supporter bases.

Really sad day. Team were shit and a tiny number of fans tarnished the entire clubs' reputation.

Yes, they did. A handful of people like them reflects badly on all of us. The reality is we had 1,100 there and only a dozen were acting like spanners, but who do you think will be remembered? Because it will be. Ipswich WILL have complained to the FA, rightly so. We will probably be fined and next time we go there the stewards will be more on edge.

Nobody should be getting upset about a dozen or so out of 1,100odd acting up, but we also shouldn't ever try and pretend we don't have that element to our support.

Life goes on.

No stewards, no fans in the stands. Whoever they are, whyever they do it. They aren't there to be shouted out and have a fight with.

Well, some are. Some love the big orange coat. But others are just getting paid.

But we didn't have stewards when i first went to football we had police and proper segregation, not sure why some home teams in our division let home fans sit so close to the away support when the stadium is not sold out.
If the stewards told the home fans to keep a lid on it this would not happen.
At Stoke and at Liverpool (FA cup matches) i was near the home fans and saw home fans get chucked out for standing up and mouthing off to us.

To be honest this happens all the time whenever we lose so nothing really new at all however the relevant Ipswich fan ejected with his kid in tow was a complete bellend.

What if people chanted to Leicester, Bradford, Luton etc, your just a town full of Pakis? acceptable then?

I heard some racist stuff at Luton a few years ago although that was with Barnet, where there's no love lost between the two clubs. I don't think these chants now would pass off as banter such as "Where's your famous Taliban?" "Allah is a w**k*r" and "Town full of bombers, you're just a town full of bombers".
