He's been a Villa fan since 1968, when (a) they were rubbish; and (b) Tommy Docherty was manager.

Only one thing has changed since those days, of course.

SOTV...

I can guarantee you one thing L.B. in 1972 Kennedy HATED football and Villa had no place in his life till much later(just after his agent told him how great they are/could be for his image.
The man loved no football team back then.

I'm struggling to understand why someone like Kennedy would be bothered about his personal profile and tapping in to the football market.

Someone not following football doesn't mean they hate it.

I thought Kennedy was brilliant tonight, highlight of the show. Who cares if he's a prick when he plays like that?

As have been many of the worlds greatest artist, musicians and composers - doesn't detract one iota from the quality of their work.

Still a ****.... And a scruffy **** too. A scruffy Villa supporting smirking bacon swilling ****

I have no interest in the man, but I did sell him 2 t-shirts I'd made, outside the Goldstone 20 years ago. One was a Seagulls Hall of Fame made of fake cigerette cards and the other was lots of clippings from the Argus that just said Brighton & Hove Albion. He said 'They're Monster mate!' That tenner paid for me to get in.

Exactly.

Plenty of supremely talented people in their fields are pricks, doesn't detract from their respective abilities.

In 1989, initially not knowing who he was, I spent a train journey chatting with Nigel Kennedy from Liverpool to London. When I told him I was an Albion fan he said he had always regarded them as his second team and spoke fondly of relations who lived near the Goldstone Ground.

Can't remember much beyond that because he bought me a few beers and we both got rather pickled. Smashing bloke.

Loved the Jerusalem ending which has strong Sussex connections, aka Hurstpierpoint.
What with Sussex's natural mineral resources, why not become a separate nation?

Which Footballers do you put in that category, and do the same sentiments apply?

Never been a fan of him, personality wise, & he looked like a tramp as usual tonight, but oh my word, that performance was sublime.

Coming from someone who's never heard that (Vaughan Williams) piece before.

What a nice memory

I don't get this either. There aren't an abundance of classical musicians declaring their support for a football team. I'm not sure why someone has to invent an interest. I remember Kennedy being interviewed as a teenager and he declared his support for Villa then.

This is a new one on me. What's the connection between Hurstpierpoint and Jerusalem? Mr Google could throw no light on this - I'm intrigued.

There is, of course, a strong Sussex connection to Jerusalem as it was written here. William Blake lived in Felpham and wrote the poem Milton (whose preface contains Jerusalem), while residing in his cottage

Two threads on the proms. This board is getting classier.

Ronaldo springs to mind.

Cocky **** but undeniably phenomenally talented.

I have to add, me calling NK a **** was not a reflection of my real views. I just assumed a ridiculous opinion to offset the pomposity potential of this thread.

I am sure he is a smashing Violinist.

He is, but also (in my opinion at least) a bit of a ****.
