This Argus letter writer doesn't rate the Amex catering too highly

I had a meal at jean Georges in New York last week which is a 3* michelin restaurant .... $38 (around £26) for 2 courses.

If you use that argument then the club can shoot you down in flames every time and they will use it to justify their position

But they can't. Any reasonable person will understand the club has logistical challenges not being a 365 day business and that they can't price match. Most of us would pay a premium price just as long as it was good quality AND not taking the piss. OK, dwayne has used an extreme example but the club have to realise they have to compete for our limited money. If they either price themselves out or let the quality slip too much people will save their money for other treats - like my Ockenden example.

To be honest I don't reckon they play very good football at my local restaurant, so I do get a little surprised when people think they are going to get high quality food at a football stadium

.

Problem with your analogy BV is that your local restaurant doesn't profess to be able to supply your football needs and subsequently don't advertise it. If you are going to offer quality nosh then do so but make sure it's worth the money because its in a football ground at the end of the day.

Surely the answer is don't spend £94 quid which I assume is the most expensive option available and per head. As for Withdean, it was a s**t hole and whilst a few may have enjoyed a bit of catering in a couple of stacked cabins, the vast majority put up with crap weather and mobile concessions.

Out of interest, if the guy that submitted the letter is on NSC, can he let us see what PB's response was?

Yes, you are right. It was said in an unsympathetic momment, and clearly it does benefit us all if the club can maximise the money out of catering, which it looks like they are failing to do so currently.

I don't get it? All the moans, if you can afford it buy it if you can't don't, simple. It is competitively priced compared to most large venues and a pretty good quality.
Lets be honest why are you there anyway? Football!

You might want to read the thread about the Sausage and Mash last match before making such a bold statement.

Barber has already said that it was not him who made the final decision with regards to the Catrering Contract.

Passing the buck, or giving himself leeway to sack the current lot and start all over again?

It's such a shame, as there is clearly so much goodwill towards the club fro the fans, and people are prepared to pay a bit more, but quite rightly, fans won't be taken as mugs.

It certainly gives him wriggle room if Sodexo balls it up , I think it has already been mentioned that Lindley were very close in the tendering process.

Sorry, but you don't 'get it'

The point is, these 1901ers (I'm not one of them) can afford it, but won't be mugged off with poor quality food at stupid prices and crap service.

So they are taking their business elsewhere. Club loses out.

I wish people would stop moaning about the food and just buy it...we need new players and to cut the losses, therefore buy the bloody food!

Caveat: this doesn't applty to me as I think the food is overpriced tat! I'll buy a tea or coffee though

Exactly. We all want the club to maximise the income from catering, but that won't be achieved by just jacking up the prices to an eye-watering level, lowering the service and quality to an absolute minimum - and then relying on a mixture of loyalty and a supposedly captive market to generate the increased income. (And that principle applies outside the posh seats as well).

The club really should learn a lesson or two about the recent recession which has meant the majority of people have a lot less spare income to spend therefore what they have they will certainly look at what is value for money.
