1901 Club food

What difference would it make if he did ?

The fact is whether fans like it or not the club was always going to move on and evolve when the Amex era started. The fact that what has been created in the 1901 club is not to everyones taste is neither here nor there at the end of the day as the only view appears to sit with profit which I suppose at the end of the day is probably correct given the aspiration Bloom has of Premiership football.

Providing we continue to play attractive football and flirt with play-off or auto promotion then there will be a huge captive audience which is what the club know and are gearing to. The major test would be a bland season and possible relegation which would then test the metal of fans patience on costs.

We live the dream for now and yes it is very good and personally most issues regarding food / quality are no issue to me as I do not eat around the times the games are played. What will test the resolve of fans more is the cost of the season ticket and the travel tax which I expect will head towards £100 eventually. Other niggles like £1 a ticket booking fee are neither here nor there really in the bigger picture.

Interesting points. Everybody, in some way, has been affected by the changes. Be it catering, service, travel costs, withdrawal of bus services, service charges, the 'priority' levels.

But the one constant in all this has been the woeful pr approach taken.

And as I said before, those that disagree find the little tricks being pulled on them. What would be interesting is how many times the threat of legal action, or engaging of solicitors has happened in the last 15 months compared to the previous 15 years. It isn't just the poyet situation.

Out of curiosity what little tricks as such ?

The east stand brasserie change is also interesting. I eat in there 3 or 4 times and it was always full. After games it allowed children in (unlike Dick's bar) and was again full. I appreciate there is a need for configuration changes to allow the players lounge to move there (to allow more 1901 spaces in the west) but if they lose the pre match dining and don't allow children post match (folly with the family stand underneath it) then it would be a case of change taking choice away rather than improving it.

Such as having their seats monitored and the club noticing when seats were being used by people other than ticket holders. They received communication pointing out the terms and conditions that didn't allow this. Funny how only someone who had disagreed with the club got this - I don't know anybody else who has had this?

Really ?

I have let others use mine when away and the club has stated very clearly that technically you cannot do this however they turn a blind eye.

Perhaps we are in a Big Brother situation now as opposed to a Community at a stadium. I have to say one thing the club did recently I thought was pure PR beyond belief however I will not post it on here.

How would they do that? I assume you are talking about adults using child tickets? Shirley the club don't have a list of all child season tickets and spend the ame viewing every one of these in turn to make ure an adult is not sat in one of them? That would be just madness

Er, are you serious? Someone has had an email pointing out that other people cannot use their seat?

"In recent weeks I've heard talk of some supporters wanting to eat and drink outside our stadium. To be honest, I'm not sure why."

One of the things about being a "community club", is that fans are part of a wider local community than Paul Barber seems to realise. What that means, among other things, is that some of us are customers - indeed, supporters - of pubs, restaurants, chip shops and other food outlets that we have been using for years. In my case, I could list a whole range of pubs in Lewes and Brighton that regularly get my custom - several of them very conveniently located for pre- or post-match refreshments and food.

Since football is a collective activity that involves meeting up with chums, I've tended up until now to see the stadium as the easiest place to have these meet-ups. But when I do meet friends at the stadium and the conversation inevitably turns to negative aspects of the catering experience (and it has, at every game this season), the temptation for someone to suggest an alternative venue is practically unavoidable. And, if the alternative outlet is already one that we support, as existing customers, outside the context of football, it's not a difficult (or even disloyal) decision to use it.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

And, as someone who earns a living by marketing a service to customers who do have a choice about whether they use my service, or someone else's, I'd like to suggest that a major part of any marketing strategy is to FIND OUT WHY some customers might want to try an alternative. Maybe Paul Barber should spend a few hours on matchdays, not in the plusher parts of the West Stand, but in The Swan, The Newmarket, The Downs Hotel, The Hikers, The Open House, or The Lansdown? And talk to the increasing number of his former customers who he might meet?

This is a shocker. They have emails feet deep on this subject. One of the commercial team told me that Monday mornings are spent just wading thought the deluge of complaints. I've been to focus groups were people have made clear the problems. I know that Paul, Jo, Marcus et al have had endless discussions with members, there have been threads aplenty on here.

They plough on, through two seasons and three caterers trying to offer something they can't achieve to people who don't want it.

And PB says he can't understand it.

Simply unbelievable.

Everything he needs to understand it is out there screaming at him.

It can be something as simple as getting involved in a debate on North Stand Chat.

Fancy sharing the information behind these posts?

They were adults using children's tickets but were in a part of the stadium with no child concessions.

The club don't check everyone it seems. Just those in dispute with them perhaps?

I can't say much more because the main thrust of the dispute may be subject to litigation and is nothing to do with tickets. The engagement of solicitors was initiated by the club rather than the individual.

So the club has caught someone fiddling the tickets i.e. paying the child price? I'm not too bothered about this to be honest.

That's how I read it too. If so, I can't really see why the club addressing the issue would be a problem. To be fair, it'd probably be best to give the season ticket holder a warning first but they couldn't really complain if that seat was taken away. Ripping off the club is ripping off everyone who pays full price.

Sorry that isn't the case. There is no child price in the area they sit in (as I said in my post) - the price is the same for adults and children.

And on another occasion it was adults using an adults ticket that also caused a reprimand.

Basically after this fan and the club fell into dispute and the club engaged solicitors (the fan didn't even know they were in dispute until the club engaged the solicitors). The fan asked for a refund on his 4 season tickets which the club refused. So he let others use his ticket until the end of last season until he received a couple of warnings about breaking terms and conditions. The issue they raised with him wasn't about adults in a child's seat per se, it was loaning them out. Full stop.
