Brighton factually.....
I wouldn't go with those cold-calling b*st*rds - they call my mobile twice every day with recorded messages, but ..... I paid far too much for PPI when I originally got this mortgage 13 years ago, how much documentation do you need, I'm not sure I have it all going that far back.

Richard it is worth doing, I was lazy and used one of those companies and yes they took 25%.

I had no records left just an approx date and the name of the banks I had loans with they did all the dirty work and I got 75% of something I would not have been bothered to chase and it paid for two nice holidays and spending money.

Im just astounded at the amount of people that took out PPI insurance in the first place. Was always blatently a con.

Was it though?

Wasn't the main selling point that if you were to lose your job your repayments would essentially be covered for a certain period of time?

If that's the case then surely it was a good insurance policy to have should you unexpectedly find yourself redundant for example

In some cases it may have been good cover that paid out when it should and significantly eased the trauma of someone losing their job or suffering loss of earnings as a result of sickness or accident. But...too many retailers of financial products (inc the high street retailers) simply saw the commission payments that were available from the product providers and they lost all sight of what was in the best interests of the consumer. Plus, too many people then and now, pay too little attention to the financial products they are buying.

Likewise - the amounts some people have apparently paid for this insurance cover based on the amounts claimed back is incredible. If people wanted that type of cover it was available at much lower costs than lenders were offering.

There was a lot of sharp practice as well. When you asked for quote it was hidden in the small print that you had to stipulate you did NOT want cover.

A lot of people missed this and only became aware they had got PPI after they had taken out the loan.

Not me because I've not had that sort of debt/credit, but my mate got 11k. Go for it I'd say.

My son was turned down by a branch office of Santander when he applied for a loan to buy a car. A car dealership sold him a car on finance and the loan was approved because PPI was taken out by guess who ? Yeah .... Santander.

Bit of a result if you did request cover and have subsequently been able to claim it back

Not that this happened to me :cough:

Don't think it works in that case... :jester:

I went the lazy route and used one of the adverts. Got a cheque for £130 the other day having done literally nothing. They got their cut, rightly so. Additional money in my pocket.

I got just about £20K back from Nat West from loans I'd had over many years - all you have to do is get one of the letters off the moneysavingexpert web site and alter it to your circumstances and then sit back and wait. I had no paper work as these were, as I say, quite old loans. I expected a few hundred quid but was more than pleased with £20K !

I had no dates or statements - if these were bank loans the bank should have all the details
It HAS to be worth a try
