I don't remember Gus ever offering his resignation?

Erm, Tony Bloom said Gus phoned him and told him he wanted to leave in the summer and wouldn't discuss it. Are you claiming Bloom was lying, or being a pedant about what exactly constitutes a resignation?

Didn't TB tell the recent fans forum that Gus asked to leave in March, Gus allegedly said '.............or leave even the next day' - that's not even a resignation, that's threatening to walk out. In the normal employment world outside footie you have a contract that specifically states the period of notice required from an employee. If you walk out of your own volition then you normally waive all entitlements, and potentially leave your new employer open to compensation claims. I wonder if Gus expected the third party to pay up his contract at The Albion?

Ok in the Football world there are often mutual releases from contracts etc blah blah, but to offer to leave the following day is very confrontational, especially if it was without much warning. You can understand TB insisting that Gus honour his contract until the end of the season. Although we had a wobble around that time we were still very much in the promotion race and the worst possible moment to cause disruption to our Club.

Erm, that wasn't offering his resignation, that was crying wolf. If he was serious about it he would have made it in writing just like everyone else has to.

Maybe because of Gus’s undying love for all things Leeds United, he watched the “Dammed United” over and over again. He saw that offering to resign was the way to pushing the chairman to sack him and you end up at Leeds as the result.

In the world of Gus
We are Derby county
Where he goes next for a year is Brighton
And Leeds are just Leeds.

Of course this is complete speculation and completely made up.

But he is not the first manager we have had that has obsession with Leeds.

Without having read through the past six pages of hysteria, Paul Barber said today that 11 clubs are receiving parachute payments in the Championship.

Eleven.

Top six budget-wise, are we?

That is not true.

10 teams receive PP but Portsmouth and Wolves are not in the Championship.

16 - 18 million payments to :

QPR
Reading
Wigan
Blackburn
Bolton

8-9 million to :

Birmingham
Blackpool
Burnley.

The last 3 are totally skint so their budgets will be small.

I reckon from the above we have budget number 6.

Leeds, Leicester and Forest will not be above us.

So, fans can't claim he was trying to screw up our season by walking out, because he wasn't trying to walk out? Tony Bloom can't claim this all started when he asked to leave, because he wasn't really asking to leave?

Is that a serious question? Nah it's not is it?

It is if its genuinely believed Gus didn't really want to quit then. I mean, by all means criticise him for crying wolf, but to act like he was trying to walk out on us at a key moment while also arguing he wasn't actually trying to walk out on us just doesn't wash.

I'm guessing you don't run your own company, because if you did you'd know that you'd need to get rid of that employee asap unless you were impressed enough with him to let the tail wag the dog.

But from reading your posts on NSC I'd suggest you are just playing devil's advocate here

I'm not sure you're understanding my point. All other criticisms aside, the idea of him constantly threatening to walk to get his own way is irrelevant to my point. What as right for tony/the club to do or what was wrong, what was right for gus to do or what was wrong for him is irrelevant.

This is about people's arguments on here.

Simply put no one can argue "he wanted to leave at a key point" and "he didn't really want to leave". If you say he wanted to leave at that point, you have to accept that was his attempted resignation. If you believe it was another bluff, you can't say he was trying to leave at a key point in our season. They cannot logically co-exist.

I would have thought Forest defintely will be, I would also have thought Leicester were last season and so will be again. Leeds - I have no idea.

What makes you so certain (out of interest) ?

I am certain( ish ) because the FFP rules are the same for them, and their income levels are less. No matter how rich the owners of these 3 are, they simply cannot inject extra cash above FFP.

Of course clubs may be trying to get round FFP with complex webs of finance and, for example, quid pro quo business deals within these finance webs in return for sponsorships. It is not impossible to imagine that we have very clever accountants tasked with finding loopholes and work arounds for the FFP restrictions for us as well.

Poor Gus, pass me a tissue.

Do you not understand the knock on effect with an unsettled and uncommitted manager?

It certainly doesn’t help the players currently in the squad, and if you chuck in new transfer negotiations, most players sign because of a belief in the manager, so it is pointless negotiating, or trusting them to persuade potential signings to commit when they are not committed themselves.

As if transfer windows weren’t hard enough.

Why can’t people see the bigger picture, we are more likely to get the signings we need under Oscar and this is why it is essential to have that advantage on this level.

The choices were Gus Poyet or success? Personally I would always go for the latter.

it depends how a "budget" is calculated and what people mena when they use the word budget. If it is to include everything from players wages to signings then i would have thought Birmingham would be above us as their wages would be a lot higher as they hadn't got rid of quite a few big earners last season however if you're talking about free cash to spend on acquisitions then they are probably lower.

I have no idea - I just assume if say all four clubs went for a player - those other three will be offering a better deal than us. Perhaps I am behind the times.

Actually this is true. The definition of budget could mean total budget ( ie needing to pay for existing high earning turkeys on the books that no one else wants), or it perhaps could mean the amount available for new signings. As you say, they are not the same thing.

Maybe last season but i think it will be a lot closer this year now FFP has come in but tehn i don't know how much our everyday running costs compare. As previously mentioned we have just moved into a new much bigger stadium and no doubt we are overspending in areas where we haven't got it perfect yet.

Sheeeesh, a bluff is an attempt to fool someone for your own advantage, and Bloom wouldn't have known if Gus was calling his bluff or not at the time, but that'what bluffing is all about.

maybe it would be nice to know why he was so unsettled
before we all start jumping the gun and making assumptions
