How soon is now?
Trap 6 at Hove Corals, last race on a Saturday night a few years back. On a stag do we all chipped in, totalled about £300. It must have been about 6/1 and we took a trackside bookie for just over 2 grand including our stake. No form was studied, we just agreed on trap 6. The guy looked thoroughly pissed off when we sent the stag down dressed as Bo Selecta Scary Spice to collect the winnings

A few years back, John Part had just won the Las Vegas darts classic yet Bet 365 still had him 50-1 for the World Championships in the December/January. They paid for my Christmas that year.

A mate of mine once crashed his car into a vehicle driven by a dodgy geezer in the racehorse training business. He tried to plead not guilty to a charge of careless driving, so had to turn up to a magistrates court hearing. He was found guilty, but the other driver helped him out by giving him the inside information about a horse that was running the next day, after a series of - how shall we say? - surprisingly disappointing performances. My mate easily covered his fine with a winning bet at 40/1. And the rest of us all did rather nicely out of the information.

The trick is to only be bullish about sports the majority know diddly about.

if you are after an educated punt and can count to at least 3
watch the odds for "in play" cricket, sometimes they fluctuate massively and you can quite often get all options covered.Works much better for a 20/20 game than a test.

Got a free £40 bet a few years ago when I joined William Hill, so I put it on a 40-1 outsider and it won!!! £1600 for £0 stake, superb!

All over the place
Had a £5.50!!! double on Newcastle to win the Championship (5-1) and Notts County to win League 2 (14/1) a few years back - paid £495.

Once had £200 on Chelsea to win away at Wolves when Wolves went up to the Premier League at 8/15. Chelsea won 5-0 but when John Terry's goal was disallowed after 9 mins I was cr@pping myself. My highest ever bet apart from that is £20. Just thought the price was way too good to miss out on.

Years ago when I used to bet minimum stakes on 1st goalscorers, I saw one weekend someone I'd never heard of at the time called Gabriel Zakuani had scored the previous week for Leyton Orient and he was still 50/1 with bet365 1st goal for their next game. After I'd put £2 on, I then read he was a 17yr central defender! But he came up trumps for me!

My best odds win was 66/1 on at least 5 goals (or possibly 6) being scored in a game between Wycombe and Brighton at Adams Park. It was our second game there that season and Wycombe were leaking goals in all their games.

I know a guy who won about £10k on Milan Baros being top goalscorer at the Euros.

Beat Kirk Shepherd (how he got there I'll never know) in the final I believe...

Got the Albion at 25-1 the day Bobby signed before the bookies realised what we'd got back in the Championees season. Winnings paid for our season tickets for the following year plus £50 over which we put back on and we all know what happened the following season!!!
Never backed us again til last season when I lost £40 so I reckon I'm still about a grand up on the bookies as I never bet on anything else not even the national.
Back on this year with £20ew at 16/1 and a tenner on Ulloa at 20's so hoping to make it 3 out of 4

£2 on McShane / 1-0 scorecast @ 285/1. Shared with a thread on here before the game, and taken up by half a dozen others, including Turkey and afters.

And an extra £1 @ 40/1 just on the FGS.

I have the video of that goal and have watched it a few times. Still not convinced it was not an own goal. So you may have been luckier than you first thought.
