Club Confirms Poyet Dismissal

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
In today's Argus: Adam El-Abd has admitted Albion blew automatic promotion to the Premier League under Gus Poyet. ... El-Abd says the players know they should have finished above Hull as runners-up to Cardiff. The long-serving defender said: "I think the ending masked what had been a really good campaign. We finished fourth, which was a great achievement in itself, even though the talk among the lads now and the amount of points we threw away is that we should have gone up in second spot. We were four points off it and we threw away some points which would have enabled us to get into that spot."

He shouldn't have conceded a penalty at Barnsley then should he? Two keepers letting in soft goals. It was down to the players as much as anyting.

That's unusual, a player admitting they didn't do as well as they hoped and that several games were close. I bet 20% of clubs have a similar story

Sorry I had to stop there. You use your numbers to prove your point, but you talk shit. Upson played 20% of the season as centre back, so by your rubbish, if he played every game, he would have played 50%. Very misleading leading mate. How can a player percentage for one player be based over two positions? For the record Upson played 41.6% of the season at centre back. But you use your half truths and your stats, and I'm sure the easily lead will believe you.

I'll clarify so you can go back and finish reading the post, my apologies for not making it clearer.

It wasn't about one player, it was about the qualities of whichever players filled the two positions.

As a team there was 4602 minutes played in the league (incl play offs and injury time).

The left sided centre back featured for 4602, and the right sided centre back featured for 4602.

There was 9204 minutes available for a centre back.

Matthew Upson, our only centre back who has significant high level experience beyond our first season in the championship (hence mentioning him by name) played 1914 minutes.

The other 7290 minutes of centre back time was shared between el abd, dunk and greer.

Yes, if upson had been with us for the whole season and played every minute he, as an individual, could only make up 50 percent of the time, but he didn't, he didn't even feature in half our match time for one position, and the other position (and his when he wasn't here to fill it) was exclusively filled with players who had only recently made the step up.

Now I've cleared that up, feel free to read the rest of that post.

No, we had far too many games drawn that should have been wins. In fact, the highest number of draws across all leagues I believe.

Patronising.

BTW. El-Abd played at Championship level some time before our latest promotion from L1.

Did you see the post I was replying to? It deserved it.

El Abd started 14, but only completed completed 7, games, 8 years ago. I wouldn't consider that significant experience.

Again you miss my point. Any club that has come close but not achieved what it hoped to will have players saying how they are disappointed but that they were nearly there and a couple of games could have changed it. I bet man utd players did when they lost on last day if the season. My point was its a non story but you are again using it as a stick to fit your agenda. Have you read the book "bad science" although not directly relevant as its about scientific research however one of its main points is about not cherry picking data to fit your hypothesis.....

It didn't deserve, as you are so misleading its tiresome. It came from your point that the core of the side are league one players. That is simply not true and misleading. They fact that some of those league one players are now current internationals is not mentioned by you. You can quote all the stats you like, you can be as patronising as you like. But you are purposely misleading.

Gus has gone. He wasn't deemed suitable to carry on. He is out of work, and will remain out of work unless he is willing to take on a club lower down the ladder than us. Get over it! Look forward to promotion this season. Then bore us with all the pointless misleading stats you want. No one will care.

My argument is nothing to do with gus. My argument is about the arrogance of our fans to believe every other team reached or excelled their potential but we didn't, that we were the only team that should have done better than we actually did. We weren't.

Nobody made that claim! You really are looking more and more foolish.
