I don't really see how there is any doubt. The ball doesn't move and a sound isn't made in the right place for it to be bat. None of the technology picked up anything either.

As I said - I had the sound off. However, you are forgetting the umpire does not have the use of all of this technology at the exact MOMENT the ball is bowled - only at review. In real time it definitely could've looked like it COULD have taken a slight nick, therefore there is some doubt, and so, NOT OUT.

What the **** is this 3rd umpire on!!! Someone search him for Aussie dollars, I can't believe he gave that as he's actually overturned the onfield umpire to make that call - that is a bloody disgrace. That wasn't clear and he should have stuck with the on field decision. No way he could be sure. You can see the deflection FFS.

What you put above alone = DOUBT = NOT OUT. Simple as that. Poor, poor decision to overrule. You have to be 10,000% to overrule, especially to an OUT rather than to a NOT OUT.

Bottler is perhaps the wrong word in some cases. It's simply not having the right temperament to play in these matches. I know several of our batsmen have very good Test records and I'm sure you'll wheel out the stats if you have to, but I'm talking only about the high-pressure situations. They can all rack up hundreds against the lesser nations, we all know that, but they collapsed against South Africa last year and all the evidence is they're being humiliated again. Pietersen and Bell are liabilities, Bairstow and Root have shown nothing to justify being there, and there is just something not quite right with Cook when playing in England. That first innings dismissal happens too frequently.

Now let's hope one of those I've just named bangs out 100+ and makes me look silly (until the next Test at least).

He's not "bottled" the Agar decision at all, he's simply given the batsman the benefit of the doubt. Although it looks on the line, it's an inexact science so it's possible he was in, therefore not given out. As for Trott, how is that the third umpire's fault? Hot spot showed no nick.

Personally I thinks it's a disgraceful decision bearing in mind the same umpire gave the benefit of the doubt to the batsman earlier in the game when it looked like an obvious stumping. In this case there was doubt and he gives the batsman out. WTF is that about

I've been watching in the garden all day so haven't read this thread, did everyone else think Agar was an obvious stumping or is it just me?

I think the difference is that we haven't got many batsmen capable of challenging for a test place. Conversely, we have several bowlers in the mix - Bres, Onions etc

And I don't want Compton anywhere near the test team.

Moving on, this really is a very important partnership. England's two best batsmen. They need to wipe out this lead, and one of them needs to anchor this innings with a ton. We need to post a score of 300, we have plenty of time so we need to do this 'old school', i.e. see off the new ball and play with patience.

If these two can see out the remaining 34 overs and we have a lead of 60-odd them I'm still feeling good about our position.
