I agree. But in terms of money generated it is not particularly huge...and after all this is the aim of the organisation. It is also at an advantage to many other charities in that it is linked to the football club and with this comes many ready made donors and contacts. On this latter point, via the football club there is probably only 2 degrees of seperation between REMF and almost anything/anyone in the county. I have said before it has the potential to be absolutely huge. The Brighton marathon is not exploited properly; much more could be raised from this if it was done properly. On this point REMF should also be organising a 10k/half marathon. There are a few charities running Brighton 10ks and half marathons now. I realise I am coming across as mean as I know the REMF put a lot of effort in but it really needs to go to the next level...and it can.

Don't forget that everything that is organised is done in peoples spare time as well as having full-time jobs. I think raising over £125,000 is bloody good for a charity that is done in peoples spare time.

The whole thing is being broadcast live on Youtube (and will be viewable in full afterwards) so you'd assume that the cameras will be rolling from 7.30 when the coverage starts and will remain on through half time - it's not like there is a studio to cut to

Wait, I'm going to be playing live on TV?! Would you be able to give me a link so I can broadcast it around?

I appreciate this. But I think you are at a crossroads now. I think you can take it a lot lot further. Running is a boom activity, it's not too difficult to organise races in Brighton and around Sussex, why not organise a 10k for 2014? The cost/return is high and it will grow over the years if organised well and run correctly. Go on, do it. I have thought about this myself but as I do not live in Brighton it would be too difficult currently.

What great ideas perhaps instead of telling everyone else what to do, organise it yourself although obviously you now have an excuse not to

I've asked the Holmesdale boys for a link and to confirm if it is just audio or if there is video too.

I'm 99% certain I saw talk of video coverage with commentary although now I'm starting to doubt myself

The REMF is run by a team of about four. In their spare time.

It has raised £125,000 plus for charity. That is £125,000 plus going to help good causes and junior football clubs in memory of Robert. And THAT is something everyone involved should be very proud of.

But please, feel free to criticise. Presumably you will all be PM'ing your offers of help over the next few days, or offering to get involved to people in person at tonight's match.

£64 raised person doesn't sit well really. People talk about the annual binfest on this, but I'm amazed nothing has been done... the annual binfest goes over the same ground, and yet here we are again with the same problem. Bizarre

Really? That's pretty poor, IMO. Strikes me as a bit of an old boys club. Bit like the Albion were at Withdean.

And this is my point, I'm not knocking the REMF or the organisation in general, but the total raised by the players, who are doing something a lot of Brighton fans would love to do, is very poor. I don't really see how anybody can argue that.

Why should I organise it myself? I'm not part of the REMF. It's their job to look at ways of making money is it not? I have provided a few pointers it's now their job to act on them. I'd certainly be happy to advise but I do my own stuff and live outside the UK so it's just not practical to be hands on.

Excuse me??

It is a charity run solely by unpaid volunteers.

I agree. Does it have to stay this way? Surely most if not all charities start this way? You all seem very defensive of any constructive criticism. Maybe this is part of the issue?

I have said before it has the potential to be absolutely huge. The Brighton marathon is not exploited properly; much more could be raised from this if it was done properly. I have previously fully explained to Uncle Spielberg how it works but the advise has never been acted on. Another person has also done the same. On this point REMF should also be organising a 10k/half marathon. There are a few charities running Brighton 10ks and half marathons now. I realise I am coming across as mean as I know the REMF put a lot of effort in but it really needs to go to the next level...and it can.

Sort it out then.

This.

There are a lot of gobshites who will readily offer thinly veiled criticism dressed up as advice but won't actually do anything to help.

Well done to all involved. Keep up the good work

I'm not sure if you are part of REMF or not but if you are you specifically need to take a look at your attidude. I have offered constructive comment. Why not come back with some yourself?
