I'm now on 249 for this list. I reached that at the start of February. Just Avatar to watch. It's on my sky plus and has been since last year, I'm just really struggling to brin myself to watch it.

Due to the changing nature of imdb's top 250, there are currently 8 other films I need to watch:

-high and low
-come and see
-le samourai
-throne of blood
-A Beautiful Mind
-Harakiri (Seppuko)
-Untouchable
-warrior

240 for me, I suppose it comes with being around for a long time. A fair few of the list have 2 or 3 remakes which usually were not as good as the original, so the real list is a bit longer, as say Rear window has at least 3 versions.

Have you had the same determination with Mamma Mia ?

It's like you don't even know me. I love musicals, so have no problem watching mamma Mia again and again and again...

Well, that's a surprise, Avatar is not that bad a movie, Mamma Mia is pure dross. I'd rather watch Letters to Juliet and that was a struggle.

Does anyone know a good site/app I can keep track of all films I own/have seen? Tremendously geeky I know but I like lists like that.

What are your top 5 from the 250?

I always struggle picking, but, short listed for my top 5 would be

Fritz lang's M
His girl Friday
12 angry men
The prestige
The shawshank redemption
Leon
3 idiots
The princess bride

There are a few classics on that list too, finding memo monsters inc, die hard, big, inception, batman begins, la confidential, the usual suspects, reservoir dogs, etc. but the ones above would be vying it out for my top five.

If you just want to track the top 250, sign up to imdb, v
Rate the films you,be see, then above the to two fifty there's a link to track which you've seen (ironically it actually shows you all the ones you've not yet seen). Most of the sites I think require you to actively input (imdb has a list function where you can make a list of films, but if you mr ate the films you've seen it will show up in your vote history, too).

I use letterboxd (letterboxd.com). Here you can go through and easily tick all the films you have seen and it will nicely sort them into chronological order for you. You can also 'log' and review films, so you can have a kind of online film diary, if you can be bothered to keep it updated. Not sure if there's a feature for updating your DVD/Blu-ray collection though.

Also, you can just use the IMDB site. It has a really good feature which gives you a list of the films in the top 250 which you haven't seen (ie - removes the ones you have), which is useful for going through for recomendations - it also, unlike letterboxd (as far as I can tell), lets you sort films you've seen by rating which is good geeky fun as you can see all the films you've 'awarded' 5 stars. Unlike letterboxd, however, you would have to go and manually rate all the films you've seen, which I guess would take a loooong time - whereas it's a really quick process on letterboxd as you get most of it done by ticking films on a page displaying about 40 titles.
