However, every time we have been warned it has been due to sex/adult content.
Ah, it's perhaps worth making sure everyone is aware that they can't post that sort of thing on the main board. I assumed it was just due to swearing.

As you can see there is a significant time lapse between the original posts and the resultant warnings, which is why I think we are best to move everything off the ad-supported forum and almost start again.
Sounds good.

Right here, right now
Probably not, no.

But that's the slightly bizarre thing about the way Adsense works - gambling content is not permitted, but gambling ads may be presented by Adsense on our pages. Indeed my Adsense control panel says that 6% of the ads presented on NSC are gambling ones.

So the NSC Betting Game is finished then?!?!

This is why you have no chance trying to satisfy Google. Google is obviously run by a friend of that little chap who is presented in ads. as the CEO of Andrex. The one that tells you how many trees they plant.
Google also probably picks up on the fact that NSC is a gambling site to rival that other Brighton boys site ( Victor Chandler) what with the thousands of virtual pounds that is won and lost on here every week trying to guess the teams next result.

It's an automated system that checks the content of pages, most of the time nobody is inspecting the site.

I am aware of how it works. Is your real name Sheldon?

If it helps I know a fair few people with businesses and if you went down the route of letting them advertise on here then I would be able to get you a few takers.

Same here.

Bozza, I remember you mentioned something along these lines a few weeks back on a thread, but I don't think I've read anymore about this?

Would help local small traders, plus raise some extra revenue towards your bills. :xmas:

It's a work in (slow) progress. Watch this space.

Moving all threads in the next few minutes. I'll then start bringing back the recent football related threads.

Keep it clean from now on please.

So let's get this straight. As a condition for providing advertising revenue, this American-owned company is demanding the right to limit free speech among football fans in the UK. A country where this scrupulously moral company has been pilloried in recent months for its tax avoidance schemes.

How much does NSC need Google anyway? A while back, people were asking whether NSC should be funded by its own membership. This seems to be a perfectly sensible idea. When you look at other clubs' message boards, you soon come to realise just how lucky we are to get such value from this one. With Seagulls' Player charging around £40, NSC at, say, 30 quid a year would be an absolute steal.

No.

Adsense is my currently preferred revenue generating tool for NSC as it requires very little administration (ie my time) and is highly effective.

Adsense has a number of rules relating to the content that they will advertise against. I believe we can meet those easily without diluting the soul of NSC, not least of all because ANY discussion can still take place, but the more adult-themed will be hosted on a sub-forum which does not have supporting ads. For those who think that switching between sub-forums is a pain, just use the New Posts link, which aggregates all posts from across the entire site.

However, NSC has 10 years and over 5,000,000 posts the majority of which are 'Adsense friendly'. However there will be the odd thread or post that won't be. It will be all but impossible to proactively locate those now, so all historic material has now been moved. To most people, this won't make any difference at all, as they rarely go on beyond Page 1 of the Big Board. If people feel, want or need a post moving back to the Big Board they need only ask and it will happen.

I just ask people stick with me on this - I genuinely believe it will make next to no difference to most of our users.

Oh, and how much do we need Google?

Currently, we need them very much. NSC is currently losing £15 a day. Do the maths to work out the impact of that over a year.

Other revenue generating avenues are and will be explored, but for now Google Adsense is a critical part of the NSC support infrastructure.

Changing links (as a consequence of moving threads from here to the other stuff) could alter priority in search engine results, resulting it less traffic to NSC.

Maths done. If just 1500 people agreed to subscribe to NSC at a penny a day - or £3.65 a YEAR - that would cover those losses.

Be nice to be have an independent NSC, free of those interfering Google prudes , don'tcha think??

Maybe the club could chip in, and we would be officially recognised as a BHA fans' forum.

I think that is a slippery slope. What happens if there is an anti TB/Barber/Gus thread (or even one critical of Ashley Barnes), that the club disliked, and threatened to withdraw funding unless the thread was pulled?

I go for D, Adsense was not pulled due to Palace trolls, it was pulled due to some of us being a bit too fruity in terms of subject matter or profanity.

Most of the Palace threads on NSC are started by Albion fans, the obsession with that lot is a bit excessive.

Supporting a different football club is not a crime, no more than being black, gay, Jewish, female or (controversial this) ginger.

I was at a pub in Bolton on Saturday, chatted to their fans and it was an informative and pleasant exchange of views, why cannot NSC be the same?
