An Apache -Longbow-thingy Helicopter flew over Lancing this afternoon, I was up the downs as it flew north.

I was really disappointed it didn't sound like Airwolf.

'Now if there's one thing you can be sure of, it's that nothing is more powerful than a young boy's wish. Except an Apache helicopter. An Apache helicopter has machine guns AND missiles. It is an unbelievably impressive complement of weaponry, an absolute death machine.'

One of the few parts of that film that made me laugh!

Some of the youtube footage of Apache 'activity' in Iraq viewed through the gun camera is spectacular, if a bit of a morbid watch.

You see them fly over a few times a year. Saw a great scene a few months ago as 6 of them flew in formation over Brighton beach. They go to the US base near Kins Lynn, Norfolk before being dispatched to wherever it is we are killing brown people at any one time.

I was at a football tournament at Worthing Rugby Club last summer and about two or three Chinooks flew overhead. Probably out on a training mission.

Just along the road from me is RAF Shawbury where they train aircrew for the Apache - see them flying arround all the time.
Both the princes did their Helicopter training at Shawbury.

How disappointed were you?
Very.
In fact I felt let down. These things probably cost, well must be pushing 50k and they don't even go 'screeeeeeeeeeeeeech' when they fly.
If you are going to create a Flying Death Machine, make it bloody sound like one.
Even the Nazi's had that one nailed with the Stuka.

I've not seen it, you've opened my eyes:

The OP saw an absolute death machine fly overhead, and you come out with that. You've embarrassed yourself.

He hasn't embarrassed himself at all - I'd far rather see a Chinook (which always make me think of Final Fantasy for some reason) than an Apache

Went to school next to RAF Odiham, Chinooks all day long. Went up in one several times. In Norfolk we would see jet fighters scream around all day. I am constantly disappointed by jets and Apache's that as they pass the horizon doesn't burst into napalm flames, even though it will never happen and would indeed be horrific if it did, I still expect it! Too many Nam films as a teenager!

That was the best bit of the film. It had me in stitches for ages. Yet barely anyone laughed at it in the cinema.
